Class Year: junior
Major: Elementary Education
Activities: RA, Campus Ministry
Why did you choose Saint Joseph’s College?
The beautiful campus,
with Sebago Lake and the backdrop of the White Mountains was the deciding
factor to choose Saint Joe's. I was drawn to the school because of its
intimate size, sense of community, and Catholic identity. Once I met
the faculty and saw the gorgeous views, I knew it was the perfect fit
for me!
What’s the most interesting course you’ve had
so far and why?
I'd
have to say that my most interesting courses have been my education courses.
It's most energizing to be in a classroom of pre-service educators as we all
prepare for and reflect on our teaching ideas and opportunities. Also, the faculty
is wonderful and great to work with.
What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s College?
I love the sense of
community here at St. Joe's. In big projects and even just day to day routines,
it is very common to see different groups on campus working together. Everyone--staff,
faculty, and students--help each other out and these partnerships allow for a
small college to do big things.
Describe you typical day on campus.
Is there such a thing as a "typical" day?
Each day is different for me, but on an average day I will attend three classes,
drive to an elementary school for practicum, swing by Student Life, the mailroom,
visit friends, grab dinner...
Why did you choose the major you are currently in?
I have always wanted to be
a teacher, so it wasn't hard for me to decide a major when looking at colleges.
I chose to study education at St. Joe's because of the great things I'd heard
about the program.
What do you see yourself doing after you leave SJC?
I plan on heading straight
to graduate school when I leave St. Joe's, but I then would love to settle into
my own 5th grade classroom!
Were you prepared for the college life?
Yep!
Steve Intonti
Hometown: Derry, NH
Class Year: junior
Major: Exercise Science: Minor in Biology
Activities: Campus Ministry, Intramurals
Why did you choose Saint Joseph’s College?
I chose this school because
I was looking for a good school that gave a good education as well as
beautiful scenery.
What do you do for fun here?
I lift weights and sometimes participate in intramurals
What’s the most interesting course you’ve had
so far and why?
Biology
I, because the teacher I had made it fun to learn. It was challenging, however
I learned a lot.
What’s the least interesting course you’ve had
so far and why?
Western
Civilization, because I just really do not like history.
What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s College?
What I like most is
the small community here because everybody is friends with everybody. I also
like the small class sizes that allow me to learn easier and allow for more one
on one with my teachers.
Describe you typical day on campus.
Wake up, eat breakfast, eat lunch, go to
work, eat dinner, work out, do homework.
Name one thing that sets Saint Joseph’s apart from
other institutions.
The
amazing view and the beautiful small community.
What are some of the characteristics of Saint Joseph’s
that you value?
Sebago Lake
Why did you choose the major you are currently in?
Well I have always been interested
in the body and nutrition, so yeah, I like being healthy.
What do you see yourself doing after you leave SJC?
I really do not know for
sure yet.
Were you prepared for the college life?
Yes, because my high school was very
big and had many buildings, so it wasn’t that bad.
Alyssa Dunn
Hometown: Standish, ME
Class Year: junior
Major: Biology/Pre-medicine
Sports: Field hockey, softball
Why did you choose Saint Joseph’s College?
I liked the small campus community as well as the small class sizes.
I also wanted to be close to home and be able to play at least one sport.
What do you do for fun here?
In my spare time I'm usually playing sports, at the gym, or hanging out with
my friends/teammates.
What’s the most interesting course you’ve had
so far and why?
Native American Literature. It was so different from
all the math and
science courses I normally take. Plus, Dr. McCurry is such a fun and
interesting professor.
What’s the least interesting course you’ve had
so far and why?
Calculus. I wouldn't say it is the least interesting
class, but it
is my least favorite because I am horrible at anything involving math. Philosophy
wasn't really my calling either.
What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s College?
I like how it is so small - everyone knows each other. People always smile at
you as they walk by and professors are always willing to give you extra help
if needed.
What do you think should be changed about SJC, if anything?
It would be nice if the cafeteria was a little bigger. I wouldn't mind if we
had more dances like we used to have in the past either.
Describe your typical day on campus.
I think my days are like most other students. I catch breakfast before my classes,
eat lunch whenever there is time, go to more classes, eat dinner, and then
devote the rest of my night to homework, and softball/field hockey practice.
What is your most memorable moment at SJC?
Last year our field hockey team went to play Bridgewater in the
Championships and before we took off, all the student-athletes gathered in the
back of Alfond Center with signs and cheered as they sent us off.
Chris Nanof
Hometown: Lancaster, MA
Class Year: senior
Major: Double Major in Business Management and Business Finance
Sports: Baseball, golf
Why did you choose Saint Joseph’s College?
I liked the small school, small class atmosphere of the college. I was also interested
in playing baseball, and being recruited here had a lot to do with my decision.
What’s the most interesting course you’ve had
so far, and why?
Business
Finance with Professor Girlando. We ran a company from its beginning
for 8 years. Each week of the class was equal to one year. This helped
with understanding how a real-world business is run. It was very applicable
to my major and what I plan to do in the future.
What’s the least interesting course you’ve
had so far, and why?
Most of the gen. ed. requirements.
Describe your typical day on campus.
During baseball season a typical day consists of classes, homework, and
practice, usually 3-4 hours a night. Out of season, my day is a little
more laid back because all I have to do is keep up with my classes.
Name one thing that sets Saint Joseph’s apart
from other institutions.
It’s the ability to meet one-on-one with the professors. I feel
like every professor I've had has been approachable and makes their selves
available at different times throughout the week. I'm not sure if this
is offered at other institutions.
What is your most memorable moment at SJC?
In my three years here so far as a part of the baseball team,
we have won the conference tournament both years. It’s tough to
say which one is more memorable, but freshman year the tournament was
at SJC and playing the game with the student body covering the hill in
right field is something that is hard to forget.
What do you see yourself doing after you leave SJC?
I plan
to attend grad school right away and get my MBA. I'm not sure where, but
I know that is what I want to do.
Ashley Brown
Hometown: Thomaston, ME
Class Year: senior
Major: Double - Business: Marketing and Communications: PR and Advertising
Activities: Business Club, Campus Ministry, Intramurals
Why did you choose Saint Joseph’s College?
I chose this school for several reasons. Closer to home than the private
school I went to, small and close knit like my high school, and my cousins went
here as well.
What’s the most interesting course you’ve had
so far and why?
Marketing with Ed Hellenbeck-best professor yet. Challenging, but I looked
forward to walking into his class every day.
What’s the least interesting course you’ve had
so far and why?
Probably Business Stats-not my favorite subject I guess.
What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s
College?
Definitely the friends I have made here. The school is so small, which
can sometimes be negative, but for the most part I love it. For
the most part you know everyone and its nice to have that sense of community
when you need help in school or otherwise.

I normally play basketball almost daily or hang around with some of my friends.
What’s the most interesting course you’ve
had so far and why?
White Collar Crimes with Dr. Dale Brooker. This class was interesting

took the subject matter and presented it in such a manner that it was
appealing for the entire class.

I love the fact that students can have such a close relationship with
their professors and the administration of the college.

What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s College?
All of the people.
Describe you typical day on campus.
Waking up and heading to class, then grabbing
lunch. After that either going to afternoon class or trying to get homework

take a class that provides insight to your everyday life.
What do you think should be changed about SJC, if anything?
You might hear student say that they want to see a more active campus. Well
I do to. However, a campus will only be active if you are active in it. So SJC
could change by have more students take initative to make this campus what they
want it to be.
What is your most memorable moment at SJC?
In Childrens Literature
we were learning to make pop up books for the kids. Sitting in that class
and being able to just have fun and accomplish a lot of work is so amazing
to me. We have fun and it is just a great time. This class decided my
major.
Why did you choose the major you are currently in?
Elementary Elducation is an
opportunity to work with children and not only have fun but learn at

excited to get started.

Sarah Marshall

Campus activities: VP of Student Senate and member of Executive Board
Why did you choose Saint Joseph’s College?
I loved the small,
personal environment hat Saint Joseph's offered. People
are friendly and in a small school you know just about everyone. I loved
that the college sat on the lakeshore and its location was close to home
and the city of Portland.

I wish the college had
a quicker response in reacting to the needs of students as they asked.
Heat was fixed immediately, parking spots are found more readily, ticketing without
parking stickers was enforced, etc.
Name one thing that sets Saint Joseph’s apart from other institutions.
The
class size and teacher willingness. The largest class I have ever been
in was a business class which 45 people were in. At most universities,
the class sizes are double or triple that number. My favorite part about
this school are the teachers. Each one is dedicated to ensure the learning
of their students is maximized in every possible situation. hey make being a
student and learning an amazing experience.
What do you see yourself doing after you leave SJC?
After I graduate I would love to work for a few years while also pursuing my master's

my nurse practitioner degree.
