Alumni profile
Christina Renaud
Christina Patman Renaud '02, accountant
An accountant at Olympia Companies, a hotel management, real estate development and investment company, Tina Renaud '02 handles bank reconciliations daily, closes the financial records for 10 hotels each month and then prepares and analyzes the month-end financial statements. Each quarter she does an in-depth financial statement review. She also answers questions from each hotel's bookkeeper, occasionally traveling to the hotels to work with the accounting and management staff.

Tina feels a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day and likes the hotel management field. She loves her office environment because her supervisors are supportive and willing to let her take on new challenges. Besides accounting knowledge, she says essential skills for her position include confidence, communication, time management, attention to detail and accountability. "I think that all of these skills I gained through my experience at St. Joe's, because that was expected from the professors," she notes." Being a small school, it was very hard to 'hide' in class."

Student intern experience
Harrison Smith
Harrison Smith '07, accounting intern
"You can never get a feel for what you are going to do in a field unless you actually do it."

His experience at Idexx has been like an entry-level job that gives him a great look at his future career. His internship involved doing financial analysis and reports. By creating new methods and checks for month-end reporting, and through constant analysis of the region, he has helped make the department more accurate and efficient.
