I’m not yet a senior; should
I be thinking about a career already?
A. Definitely! Our suggested career development time table begins with
your first year. You can begin to identify and develop your interest
and skills, attend seminars and workshops, and even begin creating
your resume in your first year. Click here for
our four-year suggested Career Planning
Time Table.
Can you help me find a part-time job?
Yes, many local businesses post positions with the Career Services
Center that are a good fit for a college student’s schedule.
Local families seeking child care and tutors for their children also
contact us to post opportunities. Check our employment
opportunities site
regularly to keep up with the latest vacancies.
Are internships really important?
Yes, and they are almost essential in a competitive job market. Some
majors require that you do an internship as part of the curriculum.
They are important even when not required because they show employers
that you have taken the initiative to get some experience and firsthand
knowledge in your chosen profession. They also give you a chance to
confirm that you truly enjoy your chosen career. The Career Services
Center staff can help you find a rewarding internship experience.
I’m busy during office hours;
how can you help me?
Our Web site has handouts available that can help you write your resumé
and cover letters, polish your interview skills and strengthen your
job search skills. Download them at our Forms and Publications page.
We can also communicate via e-mail to answer questions, critique resumés,
edit letters and more. See “How can I contact the Career Services
Center staff?” above for e-mail addresses.
I am an alum of Saint Joseph’s,
but I don’t live near the campus. How can you help me?
In addition to e-mail and online resources, you can also schedule career
counseling phone appointments with the Career Services Center Director.
How successful are Saint Joseph’s
graduates?
About six months after graduation, the Career Services Center staff
conducts an annual post-graduate survey to determine who is employed,
where they are employed, whether or not they are in their desired field
and which students have gone on to graduate programs. Results can be
found on our Post-Graduate Survey Results page.
