The major in English provides students with opportunities to study classical and contemporary literature, participate in research projects, and express themselves extensively through writing and discussion. Students majoring in English develop writing, critical reasoning, and interpretive and research skills. They are enriched intellectually, spiritually, and aesthetically through creative interaction with the best of the world's literature.

A major in English prepares students for entry into many different occupations. It is particularly suited to careers in teaching, journalism and mass media, publishing, Web design, library and archival work, advertising and public relations, business, law, and government. The Bachelor of Arts major in English includes two semesters of foreign language study.

English Minor
A minor in English is available and requires students to take 20 credits in American literature, British literature, Shakespeare and electives.

This minor is administrated by the English Department in cooperation with the Business Administration and Communications Departments (20 credits).
