Gail Marchigiano

Gail Marchigiano, Associate Professor of Nursing
Professor Marchigiano teaches courses in medical-surgical nursing, critical care nursing, and pathopharmacology. Her educational and research endeavors include integrating technology into the classroom, psychomotor skill development, and factors affecting student academic success. These interests have resulted in national presentations for organizations including American Association of Colleges of Nursing, American Psychological Association, and Eastern Nursing Research Society.

Professor Marchigiano's clinical expertise includes critical care nursing, pharmacology in nursing and women's health. Her interest in clinical nursing competency led to her position on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Expert Panel for Post Entry Practice.

Publications focus on osteoporosis including primary prevention and intervention strategies for women at risk. Elsevier Science published her online case studies in pharmacology, which are available on their Web site.

Ms. Marchigiano remains active in the Kappa Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the Honor Society for Nursing where she has held the position as President and more recently Faculty Councilor. She is also involved in the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and has attained certification in critical care nursing.

Recently she collaborated with Debra Riendeau, also a SJC nursing professor, and Carol Jo Morse of Maine Medical Center to research new treatment of deep vein thrombosis in the acute and critical care settings. Their research was published in the most recent edition of Critical Care Nursing Quarterly (2006), 29 (4), p. 312-325.  Their article is entitled "New Technology Applications: Thrombolysis of Acute Deep Vein Thrombosis." Their article also is available to nurses for continuing education credits.

She also spoke on electrocardiographic changes in acute coronary syndromes at the 11th Annual Maine Nurse Practitioner Association Conference.
