Saint Joseph's prides itself on the quality of its student advising. The Office of Academic Records works with the chair of each department to ensure that each student is assigned a faculty advisor who will properly advise the student in course selections. Information concerning advisor assignments is available at the Office of Academic Records.
A faculty mentoring program matches a faculty mentor to each first-semester freshman. Faculty meet with students regularly during the first semester, helping them to assess their strengths and weaknesses. They also work with each student to set goals for academic success and to connect students with The Academic Center.
Students registered in the 4-year College may enroll in one (1) Faculty Directed Independent Study course each semester through the Division of Graduate & Professional Studies under the following conditions:
It is the student's responsibility to contact Graduate & Professional Studies for course enrollment materials. The Faculty Directed Independent Study Contract for Graduate & Professional Studies must be completed and signed by the dept. chair/faculty advisor.
Registration materials for Greater Portland Alliance of Colleges and Universities (GPACU) courses are available at the Office of Academic Records. Students interested in Alliance courses should meet with Lisa Merrill, Associate Director of Academic Records, to review the process and the availability of courses at other institutions.
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) gives students the right to control access to their educational records. Information about FERPA is printed in the "Student Handbook," and the "College Catalog." A full copy of the act is available to you. If you would like your own copy, contact the Office of Academic Records.
