Meet some of our students
Jaimee brett
Hometown: Otisfield, ME
Class Year: junior
Major: Elementary Education
Sports: Field hockey and lacrosse
Jaimee is a junior two-sport athlete who was a tri-captain as a sophomore on the 2008 women's lacrosse team. She is currently in her third season as a member of the SJC field hockey team and plays for head coach Rupert Lewis in both of her sports. Jaimee was named to the GNAC Women's Lacrosse Sportsmanship Team last spring.
Do you have any superstitions before you go into a big game?
I
always wear the same tank top under my uniform.
What is your most memorable moment as an athlete at SJC?
Being
a captain for the Lacrosse team in its inaugural year and having the
opportunity to make the playoffs.
What was it like being a member of the inaugural SJC Women’s
LAX team last spring?
It was great. We came together
as a team. The enthusiasm from everyone was a great burst of energy to
feed off of. The girls are great and enjoyable to be around. Also, the
support from the college was a huge bonus for the entire team.

Zachary Gayton
Hometown: Lewiston, ME
Class Year: freshman
Major: Business Management
Activities: Snowboard Club
Why did you choose Saint Joseph’s College?
Its distance from home
and its small class sizes made it the perfect fit for me.
What do you do for fun here?
Hang out with friends, work out, and
attend sports games.
What’s the most interesting course you’ve
had so far and why?
The
most interesting course I have taken is my Intro to Management course. Professor
Zerillo keeps us all interested and involved in the class. Time flies
in that class.
What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s College?
The most important
thing about Saint Joe's is its small class sizes. Sharing
a teacher’s attention is a difficult thing in an auditorium and it
was something I avoided in college searching.
Describe your typical day on campus.
Attend classes, lunch, homework,
supper, sports games, working out, late night comedy tv.
Name one thing that sets Saint Joseph’s
apart from other institutions.
Saint
Joseph's incredible setting is a relaxing place to live and allows you
to focus on your work. The background scenery is also quite a
sight to see.

Paul Robins
Hometown: Cornwall, England

Paul is a sophomore forward on the '08 men's soccer team. The second year player has helped the Monks (10-5-3 overall, 6-2-1 in GNAC play) secure the #3 seed in the conference playoffs and is second on the team with 17 points.
How did you end up at Saint Joseph’s College from Cornwall,
England??
I was a tour guide in London, while also coaching, and I ended up showing
Coach Bancroft’s Odyssey U16 team round London. The rest is history...
What are some of the characteristics of Saint Joseph’s
that you value?
Saint Joseph’s is a special place to me. To move 3,000 miles away
from everything you have known can be very daunting. The transition was
made easier by the faculty and students here at St. Joe’s, as they
are always willing to help your experience a joyful one. This college
campus truly feels like a close-knit community.
What is your most memorable moment as an athlete at SJC?
Scoring three goals in my first weekend in a Monks jersey after arriving
almost three weeks late because of visa issues.
Meloney Simpson
Hometown: Winslow, ME
Class Year: senior
Major: English
Campus Clubs: Business Club, Fortitudo et Spes
Campus Jobs: Writing Tutor, Phone-a-Thon, GPS Summer Programs, Marketing Intern
Why did you choose to come to Saint Joseph’s College?
I chose Saint Joe’s because the campus is small and everyone knows everyone
else—I love that.
What do you do here for fun?
The dances and comedians are my personal favorite. In general, hanging
out with friends is always fun.
What’s the most interesting course you’ve had and why?
Although I’m an English major, my two favorite, and consequently interesting,
courses have been Management and Economics, both taught by Professor Zerillo.
Zerillo’s teaching style just worked for me, and although both classes
were very challenging, he made them interesting; I really looked forward to them.
What do you love the most about Saint Joseph’s College?
I love the faculty. I love that professors seem to genuinely care about
their students, both in and out of the classroom, and they will go out
of their way to make students feel welcome.
Mitch Ouellet

Class Year: junior
Major: History secondary ed
Sport: Basketball
Mitch Ouellet is a bruising 6'7 240 pound forward on the Monks basketball team. He is a third-year varsity player under Head Coach Rob Sanicola.
Why did you choose Saint Joseph's College?
I only applied
at two schools. I have deep family ties at St. Joe’s,
which helped me make my choice. My brother is a 2005 Saint Joseph's College
graduate and was an Environmental Science Major. My grandmother went here
when it was a girls’ school and Sister Mary George was her roommate.
What is your most memorable moment as an athlete at St. Joe’s?
My
most memorable moment was when we played the ECAC tournament games here
at St. Joe's last season. The Alfond Center was really rocking for those
games as the crowd was very into the two tourney games we played at home.
I still get chills when I see pictures of the those games, especially photos
of the rowdy crowd cheering on the Monks.
What did you do over the summer to prepare for your season?
I lived on campus, played in a league at Howard sports with 6
others SJC players. It was a great experience to be around some of my teammates
all summer. The league was pretty competitive, too.

Literature or British Writers. Both classes were English classes, but
the professors knew how to interact with the class and make it fun.
What do you love the most about Saint Joseph’s College?
I love the size of St. Joe’s the most. Professors know their students
personally and genuinely care about their students. I also love
how a faculty/staff member you might not know will ask you how you’re
doing.
Mark Ouellette

Class Year: senior
Major: Nursing

activities, like the comedians that come to school.
What’s the most interesting course you’ve
had and why?
I think that ALL of my nursing courses have been amazing in teaching
me all I need to know to prepare myself for the 'real' nursing world
once I graduate, but my Basic 2-D Design class with Scott Flanders was
also wonderful-- it made me appreciate a talent that I hadn't been able
to previously explore and opened my eyes to my artistic ability.
What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s
College?
I love the people, and the environment, and knowing full-well that should
ever any problem, question, or concern arise during my stay here, I have so many

about the Bible and religion.
What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s

How pretty it looks as the seasons change and the school changes with

My most interesting course at SJC has been Judaeo Christian tradition. It’s
interesting and unique, and Professor Mary Sheriden makes it thrilling! Even

you positive feedback and use different techniques to help you understand. I
really enjoy the class and enjoy going to it!
What do you love most about Saint Joseph’s College?
I love having freedom away from home. You basically can set your lifestyle up
