– St. Joe’s Women Rout Clippers in Home Opener, 85-31

STANDISH, ME – The Saint Joseph's
College Women’s Basketball team defeated the University of Maine-Machias
Clippers in their home opener on Sunday in a lopsided victory, 85-31.
St. Joe’s shot nearly 44% from the floor and were led by sophomore
guard Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME) who scored
a season–high 19 points. Freeman was
lights-out from downtown, going 5-8 on 3-point attempts in the game.
St. Joe’s got their offense going early
in the first half as they went on a 15-4 run five minutes into the game.
During this stretch Freeman drained two three-pointers and scored 8
points.
UM-Machias committed 28 turnovers in the game and shot just 18.8% from
the floor.
In all, eleven St. Joe’s players put points on the board and four
ended the game in double digits: Freeman with 19 points, JR Alysn
Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) scored 11 points and added 6 assists
and SO Allison Miner (Pembroke, NH) added 10 points
in the win. Off the bench, SR Megan Farrell (Abington,
MA) chipped in 10 points while grabbing 9 rebounds.
SO Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) played well in the
winning effort, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. FY Sarah
Fournier (Jay, ME) provided a spark off the bench with 5 rebounds
and 4 assists.
Saint Joseph's College will host Gordon College on Tuesday, 11/27 at
7:00 PM.
