SEASON PREVIEW
The women's soccer program returns ten players overall and nine have significant playing experience from last year's Division III Independents Championship squad. Second-year head coach Michael Bolanz (SJC '00) hopes to build on the 11-7-1 record that earned him Coach of the Year honors from the Association of D-3 Independents. This will have to be done without the services of two key players, Kelly Cyr (St. Agatha, ME) and D-3 Independents Honorable Mention Shana Howard (Warren, ME), who were lost to graduation. Howard will join assistant coaches Todd Sniper and Kelly Atchue on the sideline this season. Top returning players include junior Danielle McLaughlin (Skowhegan, ME) and sophomore Morgan Meserve (Scarborough, ME), members of the D-3 Independents Second Team, and junior Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA). McLaughlin had a team-high 19 point performance last season while Meserve was close behind with 17 points. Always up for a challenge, Meserve will take on goalkeeping responsibilities this season. Crisp scored seven goals and finished the season with 15 points. Coach Bolanz will look to two first-years, Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) and Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA), to impact immediately in the attack. Willette, a KVAC First Team All-Star, scored in a pre-season scrimmage. Sophomore Allison Walton (Meredith, NH) will be expected to do a lot centrally, starting the attack. The defense will be anchored by seniors Danielle Somma (Gray, ME) and Danielle Lavoie (Madawaska, ME). After missing several weeks due to an injury last season, sophomore Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA) will provide added depth on defense.
