12/6/06 - Association of Division III Independents Announces
2006 All-Independent Women's Soccer Team

STANDISH, MAINE – The announcement of the 2006 Division III All-Independent Fall Teams came from Kansas City, Missouri, this week. The Association consists of 17 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in seven sports.

From Saint Joseph's, Junior Jillian Leger (Westminster, Mass.) and sophomores Megan Willette (Waterville, Me.) and Katie Jordan (Sandwich, Mass.) were named to the All-Independent Women's Soccer First Team.


11/22/06 - Leger, Willette, Crisp Named to All-New England Teams

D3Kicks is proud to present its first ever All-Region Teams. The players selected for these teams have been nominated by Sports Information Directors from around the country. Each region consists of three teams; a first, second, and third team. Each team is made up of a goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders, and three forwards.

Junior defender Jillian Leger (Westminster, Mass.) was named to the D3Kicks All-New England First Team, and sophomore forward Megan Willette (Waterville, Me.) and senior midfielder Michelle Crisp (Dedham, Mass.) were named All-New England Second Team.


11/8/06 - Monks Fall Short at ECAC’s

Northampton, MA - Top seed Smith College defeated St. Joseph’s (ME) 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Women’s Soccer Championship. The Pioneers advance to the semi-finals at noon on Saturday and host the winner of the Brandeis/Rhode Island College game.

Smith scored what proved to be the winning goal just eight minutes into the game on a corner kick by Caitlyn Colman-McGaw (Manchester, CT) who found first year Dalyn Houser (Atlanta, GA) who headed the ball into the upper left corner. Both teams exchanged shots before junior Ashley Bauer (Bradford, NH) scored unassisted as she chipped the ball from the top of the box over the hands of Monks' keeper Shannon Northrop (Westbrook, ME) to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead at the half.

Smith scored its last two goals within one minute of each other at the 65-minute mark. Houser scored her second goal of the game on a passes from Brittoni Famous (Collegeville, PA) and Danielle Schmandt (Austin, TX) and Schmandt notched her own goal less than one minute later with an assist from Sara Dilegge (Mashpee, MA).

Both teams had eight shots and five corner kicks. Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) picked up her fourth win of the season in goal while Smith improved to 12-7-1 overall while Northrop took the loss for the Monks and end the season 11-9.

11/6/06 - Women’s Soccer Receives ECAC Bid

Standish, ME - For the first time in the history of the program, the Saint Joseph's College women's soccer team will be competing in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships.

The Monks are seeded eighth in the eight-team tournament and play first seed Smith College at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8th at Smith College. The winner will advance to play the winner of the Brandeis/Rhode Island College match-up on Saturday, November 11th with the Championship match on Sunday, November 12th at the highest remaining seed.

Saint Joseph's College enters the match with a record of 11-8 this season while Smith will bring a mark of 11-7-1 into the contest.

The Monks made the DIII Independents Championships for the third straight season but fell to Green Mountain College in the semi-final. Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) leads the Monks this season with 14 goals and six assists for 34 points and sophomore Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) has 8 goals and two assists for 18 points. Senior co-captain Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA) has added 7 goals for 14 points.

Smith College was defeated by Wheaton College in the NEWMAC Championship on Sunday, November 5th.


Monks Fall in DIII Independents Semi-Final; Win Consolation

11/5/06 - Poultney, VT - The Pequots from Mitchell College were a bit overmatched as the Monks from Saint Joseph's College of Maine took a convincing 8-0 win in the consolation match of the Association of DIII Independents.

The Monks started the game with a bang as they scored two goals in the first 90 seconds of play. Katie Jordan (2 goals), Michelle Crisp (2 goals), Megan Willette (1 goal), Karla Emerson (1 goal), Allison Walton (1 goal, 1 assist), Kelsey Stewart (1 goal), Lauren Hagerman (2 assists), Jillian Leger (1 assist), and Heather Stanger (1 assist) all figured into the score book for St. Joe's.

Shannon Northrop
and Lindsay King shared the goalkeeping duty for the Monks, but did not face a shot. Molly Gill kept busy for the Pequots with 10 saves on the day.

Lisa Tummillo and Molly Gill were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Pequo's while Katie Jordan and Michelle Crisp were honored for the Monks.

Green Mountain defeated Meredith College 2-1 in the Championship match.

11/4/06 - Poultney, VT - In the second of the two women’s soccer semi-final matches played at Eagle Pavilion on the Green Mountain College campus, the GMC Eagles (#2 Seed) hosted the Monks (#3 Seed) from Saint Joseph's College in Maine.

Play was brisk and there was little doubt about the play-off fervor. Saint Joe's dictated tempo for the majority of the match edging the Eagles in shots 18-5. However, it was the Eagles' day as senior Andrea Pollack finished a seemingly harmless diagonal through ball to the weak side from fellow senior Lindsay Swinger to earn a 1-0 victory.

The rest was pure defense for the Eagles as they denied every opportunity that St. Joe's could muster. Claire Davis finished with 11 saves and Northrop finished with 1.


10/30/06 - Crisp honored as Association of Division III Independents Women’s Soccer Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) senior midfielder Michelle Crisp (Dedham, Mass.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.

In a 1-1 week, Crisp scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner against the University of Maine-Presque Isle. The Monks, who are coached by Michael Bolanz, are currently 10-7 overall.


10/28/06 - Lady Monks Dominate Presque Isle

Presque Isle, ME - The Saint Joseph's College women’s soccer team cruised to a 6-0 shut-out win on Saturday at Maine Presque Isle. Senior captain Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA) scored twice for the Monks.

Crisp scored her first goal at 10:11 and extended the St. Joe’s lead after netting a pass from sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) at 13:44. Willette set up sophomore Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) for a goal in the 19th minute and Jordan returned the favor, assisting on Willette’s goal to stretch the Monk lead to 4-0 at the half.

After out-shooting the Owls 17-0 in the first half, St. Joe’s kept the pressure on in the second half and did not allow UMPI one shot. First year Lauren Hagerman (Scarborough, ME) notched an unassisted goal at 62:40 and first-year Heidi Stucki (Oakland, ME) completed the scoring with a goal at 79:10 off a corner kick.

First-year Shannon Northrup (Westbrook, ME) picked up the win for the Monks without facing a single shot.

St. Joe’s plays Green Mountain College at 1:30 PM in the Association of DIII Independents Championship on Saturday, November 4th at Green Mountain (VT).


10/25/06 - Monks Suffer 5-0 loss to Endicott

Beverly, MA – The SJC women’s soccer team (9-7) fought hard, but were not able to withstand a relentless Endicott (15-3) attack that took a 5-0 victory last night. It was an early surge by the Gulls that did the damage; the Monks were never able to recover in the contest.

Senior Caitlin D’Amario opened the scoring just three minutes into the match and junior Sarah Miller finished a volley in the box at the 13 minute mark. Endicott continued to press and opened up a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Shields scored her second goal of the game and junior Erica Hunt capped off the scoring after finishing an open net strike. The Gulls held a 14-9 advantage in shots.

The St. Joe’s squad travels to Maine-Presque Isle for a double-header with the men’s team on Saturday, October 28th. The men play at 12 PM and the women play at 2 PM.


10/25/06 - D3 Independents Women's Soccer Tournament
Seedings and Format Announced

Green Mountain College, Poultney, Vermont, will be the host site for the Association of DIII Independents Women's Soccer Regional Championships on November 4-5, 2006.

10/22/06 - Monks Shut Out Wheelock

Standish, ME – With a 3-0 shut-out victory over Wheelock College (6-10) on Sunday, the SJC women’s soccer team improves to 9-6 on the season. Sophomore Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) notched two goals for St. Joe’s.

The Monks struck quickly as FY Brianna Jordan (Scarborough, ME) took a cross, beat her defender and drilled her first intercollegiate goal just fifty-seven seconds into the match.

After almost thirty minutes of even play, St. Joe’s threatened again as Stanger almost netted the deflection of a shot by senior Karla Emerson (East Vassalboro, ME), but keeper Alyce Jordan (Weymouth, MA) made the save for Wheelock. St. Joe’s held a 1-0 lead at the break.

In the 60th minute, Stanger scored on a cross from the right to put the Monks up 2-0. Junior Allison Walton (Meredith, NH) sent the pass in from the 20 and Stanger’s shot went in off the cross bar.

After a foul near the 18 gave Wheelock their best scoring opportunity of the day, Wildcat senior Jenna Wass (Auburn, MA) put a shot slightly wide of the net.

Stanger scored her second goal of the game, fourth of the season, in the 83rd minute as she converted a cross from sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) to put the Monks up 3-0.

First-year Shannon Northrup (Westbrook, ME) had a save in the win and Jordan had 6 saves for Wheelock.

The Monks travel to Endicott College on Wednesday, October 25th for a 7 PM match.


10/21/06 - Brandeis Deals Women’s Soccer 3-0 Loss

Waltham, MA – The Brandeis University women’s soccer team got a pair of goals from junior Lizzie Bremner (San Rafael, CA) as the Judges defeated St. Joe’s 3-0.

Brandeis (8-3-3) got all the scoring they would need in the 34th minute when Bremner finished off a three-on-two break. Bremner added a second goal in the 63rd minute after a strong effort by Monk goalie freshman Shannon Northrup (Westbrook, ME).

The Judges scored a third goal just over five minutes later as sophomore Meredith Milstein (Waterford, MI) knocked in a rebound.

Northrup finished with five saves in the loss.


10/19/06 - St. Joe's Ranked Among Top 25 in New England

In the weekly rankings that were posted today at D3kicks.com, Saint Joseph's women's soccer was ranked #21 among the 77 NCAA Division III programs in New England.


10/17/06 - Monks Post 4-0 Win over NEC

Henniker, NH – The women’s soccer team beat New England College 4-0 yesterday and improves to 8-5 on the season. Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) and first year Lauren Hagerman (Scarborough, ME) scored two goals apiece to give the Monks the win.

After twenty scoreless minutes, Hagerman drilled a shot to put St. Joe’s up 1-0. This would be the only goal of the half with the Monks out-shooting the Pilgrims 9-3.

Willette scored off a free kick 15 minutes into the second half to give St. Joe’s a 2-0 edge and added another unassisted goal at 78:22 to stretch the lead to three. Hagerman netted her second goal of the afternoon in the 83rd minute to seal the victory.

First year Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) earned the shut-out win with five saves and sophomore Caitlin Foley (Wilmington, MA), back from an injury, turned in a strong performance for the Monks.

The team plays at Brandeis (MA) on Saturday, October 21st at 2:00 p.m.


10/11/06 - Women’s Soccer Blanked by Gordon, 3-0

Wenham, MA – The Monks were shut-out 3-0 by Gordon College (9-4) yesterday and drop to 7-5 overall. Sophomore Hannah Hassler (Westford, VT) scored the game-winning goal in the 24th minute.

Junior Amy Colwill (Wheaton, IL) made it 2-0 with a goal at 34:19 to give Gordon a comfortable lead at the half. The Fighting Scots held the advantage first half shots (7-2) and corner kicks (7-0). First year Emily Purinton (Boxborough, MA) scored the final goal of the match to make it 3-0 at 57:13.

First year Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) made three saves in the loss. St. Joe’s was led by the strong play of first-year Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) and first-year Kelsey Stewart (Windham, ME) provided a spark off the bench.

The Monks play at New England College (NH) on Tuesday, October 17th at 3:30 PM.


10/8/06 - Monks Claim 3-2 Women's Soccer Win over Roger Williams Crisp Nets Game Winner

Standish, ME - Senior captain Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA) lifted the Monks to a 3-2 win over visiting Roger Williams University with a goal in the 59th minute. St. Joe's improves to 7-4 and Roger Williams is at 8-5-1 overall.

Junior Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA) got things started for the Monks in the 10th minute as she sent a perfect chip into the box. Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) collected the pass and drilled the ball off Roger Williams' keeper first-year Jen Garside (Londonderry, NH). First-year Lauren Hagerman (Scarborough, ME) knocked in the rebound for her first intercollegiate goal to put St. Joe's up 1-0.

At 32:06, St. Joe's stretched the lead to 2-0 after sophomore Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) nailed a shot off the cross bar and sophomore Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) netted the rebound.

The Lady Hawks answered at 41:30 as junior Mary daCunha (Wethersfield, CT) headed in a pass from sophomore Kelly Capek (Englewood, CO) to make it 2-1.

Eight minutes into the second half, first year Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, CT) scored for Roger Williams off a pass from junior Caitlin Mayo (Merrimack, NH) to knot the score at 2-2.

Jordan set up Crisp for the game winner at 58:15 and the Monks maintained their lead for the rest of the half with first-year keeper Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) making five second half saves. Garside had five saves for the Lady Hawks.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, 10/11 with St. Joe's playing at Gordon College at 3:30 p.m. and Roger Williams playing at Anna Maria College at 4 p.m.  


10/4/06 - SJC Women’s Soccer Edged by Colby

Standish, ME –A 2-1 loss to Colby today snapped St. Joe’s three-game winning streak and puts them at 6-4 while the Mules improve to 6-0-2 overall. Senior Libba Cox (Guilford, CT) picked up a pair of assists for Colby.

The Mules got on the board at 10:06 as Cox sent a corner kick to senior Laura Williamson (Manchester, CT) who knocked it in for a 1-0 lead. Colby held the advantage in first half shots (7-4) and corner kicks (10-0).

In the 54th minute, Cox headed a cross to the far side of the 18 and junior Katie McCabe (Watertown, CT) drilled the shot to make it 2-0. St. Joe’s keeper Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) made a tremendous effort to stop the shot, getting a hand on it, but the ball found the corner of the goal.

The Monks kept fighting in the second half and sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) sent a pass over her own head to senior captain Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA) for the only SJC goal of the match.

Senior goalie Liza Benson (Orchid, FL) had 4 saves for Colby and Cuda finished with 7 for St. Joe’s.

The Monks host Roger Williams on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 2:00 p.m.


9/30/06 - Monks Cruise Past Wheelock
Willette Pours in Five Goals

Cambridge, MA – Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) capped off a tremendous week with a five-goal performance in St. Joe’s 8-0 win at Lesley. Willette, coming off two 2-goal games this week, led the Monks (6-3) to their third straight victory.

Willette drilled her first at 9:28 off a pass from first year Brianna Jordan (Scarborough, ME) and her second at 15:00 off a feed from senior Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA).

After two more goals by Willette at 19:34 and 23:19, Jordan set up first-year Heidi Stucki (Oakland, ME) for her second of the season at 27:25 to give St. Joe’s a 5-0 lead at the half.

The Monks continued their aggressive play, out-shooting Lesley 16-3 in the second half and wasted little time as Willette notched her fifth of the game less than two minutes into the half.

Sophomore Brittany Roche (Amherst, NH) scored her first intercollegiate goal at 54:20 and first-year Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) also netted her first at 86:22.

First-year goalkeepers Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) and Shannon Northrop (Westbrook, ME) split time in net for St. Joe’s and each made two saves.


9/27/06 - Women’s Soccer Cruises to 3-0 Win Against Farmington
Willette Tallies Two More Goals

Standish, ME – The Monks improve to 5-3 with their second win in three days as they cruised past Maine Farmington 3-0 this afternoon.

Senior Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA) netted the game winner in the sixth minute as sophomore Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) eluded a Farmington (5-3) defender and delivered a perfect pass.

Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) turned in her second two-goal performance of the week, connecting on a cross from first-year Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) to put the Monks up 2-0 at 19:24.

Willette added her second goal in the 89th minute, dribbling down the left side and beating the Farmington keeper.

First-year Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) had 2 saves in the win and junior Alix Raymond (West Hartford, CT) had 4 saves for Farmington.

St. Joe’s plays at Lesley (MA) on October 1 at 1:00 PM.


9/25/06 - Willette Sparks Monks with 2 Goals

Boston, MA – Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) recorded two goals to lead St. Joe’s to a 3-1 victory over Emmanuel College. The Monks improve to 4-3, while Emmanuel stands at 4-4 overall.

After a scoreless first half, first year Kate McKenna (Holyoke, MA) gave the Saints the lead with a goal at 51:22. Twenty-one seconds later, Willette evened the score with her second goal of the season and followed it up with the go-ahead goal at 53:29 off a pass from first year Lauren Hagerman (Scarborough, ME).

In the sixty-second minute, sophomore Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) gave the Monks a commanding 3-1 lead after netting the rebound of her own shot.

First-year Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) made four saves for St. Joe’s and first-year Meaghan Mingo (Grey, ME) had 1 for Emmanuel.

The Monks next host Maine-Farmington on Wed., Sept. 27, at 3:30 PM.


9/23/06 - Coast Guard Shuts Out St. Joe's, 0-1

NEW LONDON, CT - Freshman Katie Kurek's goal 4:34 into the first overtime gave Coast Guard a 1-0 win over St. Joseph's of Maine in a non-conference game. The goal was the third this season for Kurek, all of them have been game winners in 1-0 Coast Guard wins.

Sophomore Trish Ohle made just two saves in recording her fourth shutout of the season for Coast Guard (4-4). Freshman Monica Cuda made five saves for the Monks (3-3).

Coast Guard outshot St. Joseph 's 9-5.


9/19/06 - Monks down Mariners
Jordan Scores Fourth Goal of the Year

Standish, ME – The Saint Joseph's College women’s soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with a convincing 3-1 victory over Maine Maritime Academy.

The Monks (3-2) went up 1-0 at 18:41 as FY Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) assisted on a goal by SO Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA). The Mariners (1-2-1) evened the score at 32:55 after FY Diana Manatt-Rogers (Conway, MA) headed the ball past SJC goalkeeper FY Monica Cuda (Everett, MA).

Less than three minutes later, sophomore Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) collected the ball, drove left and drilled the game winner. Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) notched her first goal of the season in the 65th minute to give St. Joe’s a comfortable lead.

Cuda had 1 save in her third win of the season and FY Jessica Hewitt (Harwich, MA) had 3 saves for the Mariners.

The Monks travel to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Sat., Sept. 23 for a game starting at 1:00 PM.


9/17/06 - Husson Tops St. Joe’s

Standish, ME – A two-goal first half lifted the Eagles to a 3-1 victory over Saint Joseph's College on Sunday. Husson College improves to 3-1-1 and the Monks stand at 2-2 on the season.

Junior Shelby Morissette (Londonderry, NH) put the Eagles up at 7:22 scoring off a pass by senior Danielle Billings (Hampden, ME). Sophomore Samantha Homer (Charlton, MA) netted the game winner off a pass from sophomore Shelby Pickering (Lee, ME) in the 32nd minute.

The Monks closed the gap six minutes into the second half as sophomore Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) scored her third goal of the season off a pass from first year Anna Willis (Gorham, ME).

Pickering added an insurance goal at 55:21 for the final goal of the match.

First-year goalkeeper Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) had 3 saves in the loss and senior Leah Drew (Caribou, ME) had 6 saves for Husson.

The Monks host Maine Maritime on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 2:30 PM.


9/14/06 - Monks Suffer First Loss of Season

Standish, ME – Bates College (2-0) handed the Saint Joseph's College women’s soccer team their first loss of the season in a lopsided 8-0 match. The #10 nationally-ranked Bobcats recorded 6 first half goals to put the contest out of reach.

Five players scored for Bates with senior Jessie Gargiulo (Boxborough, MA) and sophomore Amy Werblin (Huntington Beach, CA) leading the way with two goals apiece.

Gargiulo netted a pass from junior Jen Pflanz (Westwood, MA) just 8 minutes into the match to put the Bobcats on the scoreboard. Sophomore Julie Brown (Lynnfield, MA) scored on a pass from senior Kim Alexander at 16:29 and Gargiulo recorded her second goal in the 24th minute.

Things did not go the Monks’ way in the first half as they added an own goal to make the score 4-0. Werblin scored her first of the game at 38:20 and a minute later, sophomore Jen Marino (Methuen, MA) knocked in a pass from first year Molly Radis (Portland, ME) to make it 6-0.

To their credit St. Joe’s regrouped and played much stronger in the second half, holding Bates scoreless until Werblin scored off a pass from Radis at 76:12. Less than a minute later first-year Sarah Kwoh (Pittsburgh, PA) notched the final goal of the match off a pass from Marino.

First-year goalkeeper Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) had 10 saves in the loss while junior Nini Spalding (San Francisco, CA) and sophomore Mia Lidofsky (Providence, RI) split time in net for Bates and each had a save.

The Monks host Husson College on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1:00 PM.


9/10/06 - Monks Continue Winning Ways
Stop Plymouth State in OT

Standish, ME - The Monks recorded their second win of the season in a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory over Plymouth State University. This marks the second win over Little East Conference teams in as many days.

In the 107th minute of play, sophomore Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) broke through the Panther defense and drilled her second goal of the season for the game winner. Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) kept Plymouth keeper FY Morgan McQuaide (Westerly, RI) busy with 3 shots on goal.

9/9 - Women’s Soccer Edges USM in Season Opener

Gorham, ME- The Saint Joseph's College women’s soccer squad defeated Southern Maine 2-1 as first-year Heidi Strucki (Oakland, ME) scored the game winner off a cross by FY Brianna Jordan (Scarborough, ME) in the 84th minute.

The Huskies struck first with a goal by sophomore Caitlin Brown (Camden, ME) off a corner kick at 9:44, but the Monks evened the score as sophomore Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) netted the rebound of her own shot in the 37th minute.

FY goalkeeper Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) had 4 saves in the win while FY Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) gave the Monks offense a much-needed boost in front of her home town crowd.
