STANDISH, ME - The 2008 Saint Joseph's
College Homecoming Weekend was a smashing success, as a record
number of alumni ventured back to the SJC campus to enjoy a weekend
of sporting events and camaraderie. Homecoming was kicked
off Friday September 12th, with the 17th Annual Golf Classic at
Spring Meadows, while Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92 headed up the
Alumnae Softball Game under the lights. Friday night was concluded
with the 19th Hole Chalet Party and Comedy Night with Robbie Printz.
Saturday was a full day of action where Head Cross Country Coach
Tom Dann and his former and current runners started the day off
with the Runnin' Monks 5K Cross Country Challenge. Both the Athletic
Department and coach Rupert Lewis were pleased to host the 1st
Annual Alumnae Field Hockey Game. Coach Lewis received a very
good turnout and the game resulted in a 3-3 tie. Other events
that took place that day were the Monks Alumni Baseball game,
and an array of Monks home games. The Homecoming Celebration at
the Stadium Restaurant and Sports Bar in Portland on Saturday
night was well attended and allowed the alumni to relax their
tired muscles after a day of strenuous activity!
Sunday concluded the fun-filled weekend as Coach John Rasza and
his volleyball players and alumnae played the 3rd annual Alumnae
Volleyball Game. Unfortunately the 3rd annual Monks Co-Ed Alumni
Soccer Game and BBQ was cancelled due to rain. It was a highly
enjoyable weekend for all involved and we're all looking forward
to next year!
A special thanks to Heather Plati and Alumni Staff for hosting
another successful event!!
