STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College (20-12, 7-5 GNAC)
won a pair of games versus conference opponent Norwich University
(VT) (2-20, 1-11 GNAC) on Friday afternoon, winning 7-2 in the first
game and 17-3 in the nightcap. Sophomore Pat Moran (Winterport, ME)
was the winning pitcher for the Monks in game one with six strikeouts
and one earned run allowed in six innings of work. Senior Luke
Enman (Milan, NH) was 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI’s
and freshman Todd Keneborus (Hollis
Center, ME/Cheverus HS) was 2-3 with a solo home run in the win. The
Monks scored eleven runs in the second inning of game two and went
on to register 17 hits as a team in the game. Senior Dustin
Spiller (Gorham, ME) was 2-4 with a three-run home
run in the game and freshman Bryant Lausberg
(Somersworth, NH) picked up his first collegiate win in relief.
The Cadets took their only lead of the day in the first inning of
game one. SO James Ramsey (Vestal, NY) doubled to lead off the inning
and FY Kory Delehanty (Newburyport, MA) later singled him home to
give his team a 1-0 lead.
St. Joe’s went on to score at least one run from the second
inning through the seventh to earn the 7-2 conference victory.
Luke Enman sent SR Brian
Schools (Gorham, ME) home with a single in the third
to tie the game, 1-1 and the Monks scored two runs in the fourth to
take a 3-1 lead. Dustin Spiller
scored on a double play ball hit by FY Eric LaBatte
(Rochester, NH) and Todd Keneborus
connected for his first career home run, a line-drive solo shot over
the left field wall.
SO Ben Grant-Roy (Biddeford, ME)
grounded out to short to allow Schools, who reached
with a single, to score in the fifth and give the Monks a 4-1 lead.
The Cadets made it a 4-2 game with an RBI single from SO Tim O’Connor
(Worcester, MA) that drove in Ramsay.
LaBatte scored on a SO Travis Adams
(Saco, ME) single in the sixth and Enman connected
for his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot, to wrap up the
game scoring.
FY Ian Lee (Hampden, ME) was 2-4
and Brian Schools scored three runs
in the victory. JR Andrew Pooler
(Somesville, ME) struck out one in an inning of relief to close out
the game.
James Ramsey was 3-3 with 2 runs scored for the Cadets and starting
pitcher Kyle Przekaza (Northfield, VT) took the loss on the mound.
The Monks wasted no time getting on the board in the nightcap as the
Royal Blue scored two in the first off an Enman double
and a Spiller single. The SJC offense surged for
8 hits and 11 runs in the second inning to take a commanding 13-1
lead. Spiller hit a three-run long ball, his second
of the season, and Keneborus drove home two runs
with a laser-beam triple over the centerfielder’s head in the
inning.
JR Wade Oliver (Owls Head, ME),
Schools, Enman, Spiller
and Lee all recorded two hits in the lopsided victory.
LaBatte and Grant-Roy both scored two runs and FY John
Swasey (South Berwick, ME) notched an RBI triple
for the Monks.
JR Ryan Carrier (Scarborough, ME)
recorded his first collegiate hit, a single through the left side,
in a pinch-hit appearance in the seventh inning.
Starting pitcher SO Andrew Keirstead
(Westbrook, ME) struck out two in one inning of work and was removed
after the SJC offensive onslaught in order to get some of the younger
staff members some innings. The freshman trio of Bryant
Lausberg, Matt Mullen
(Rockland, MA) and Kevin Chamberlain
(Scarborough, ME) combined to allow 3 earned runs, 7 hits and one
walk while striking out five in six innings of work.
Starting pitcher JR Kyle Kenia (Byram, NJ) takes the loss for Norwich.
James Ramsay and FY Brian Segit (Fly Creek, NY) connected for solo
home runs in the loss.
St. Joe’s will host a pair of conference games on Saturday,
April 19th against Rivier College (13-11, 6-4 GNAC) at 12:00 PM.
