WATERVILLE, ME - The SJC softball team split with NESCAC opponent
Colby College on Saturday afternoon as the women lost the opener 7-1
and won the nightcap 9-5. JR Alysn Ludwig
(Waldoboro, ME) recorded two hits in the first game and starter SO
Christy Wezowicz (Granville, MA)
was hit with the loss. FY Kiera Walsh
(Benton, ME) helped pitch the Lady Monks to victory in game two and
improved to 15-7 on the season and FY Alyssa Dunn
(Standish, ME) hit a three-run homer, her first collegiate long ball,
in the first inning to help provide St. Joe's with a triumph in the
team's final regular season contest.
St. Joseph's came back for a 9-5 victory in the nightcap to finish
the season at 26-16. The Mules had won eight straight games before
the second game loss and finished the year at 17-14.
Essman hit a two-run homer after Minichino had doubled to give Colby
a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning of the opener. Lizzi Fort (Wilmette,
Ill.) and Christine Gillespie (North Andover, Mass.) had back-to-back
doubles in the seventh inning before Minichino belted a two-run homer.
Essman finished her first year at Colby with a team-best 36 RBI. She
had two hits as did Gillespie, Minichino, and Tory Starr (Dunbarton,
N.H.). Meryl Poulin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) had a two-run double for
Colby.
Alyssa Crowell (Gilford, N.H.) entered the game in the fourth inning
and earned her seventh victory of the season for the Mules.
Alysn Ludwig led the Monks with two hits in the opener. SR
Megan Farrell (Abington, Mass.) had a double
and scored the lone run.
Alyssa Dunn had a three-run homer in the first inning of the second
game to lift St. Joseph's to the victory. She finished with a pair
of hits and two runs. Ludwig, Liddy
van der Linden
(Worcester, Mass.), and Kayla Soucy
(Colebrook, N.H.) all had two hits for the Monks. Jillian
Kimball (Albany Township, Maine) had three runs,
two RBI, and one hit.
Gillespie had a two-run double and an RBI triple for Colby in the
nightcap. Mollie Puskar (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had two runs and one hit
in her final collegiate game for the Mules.
