KEENE, NH - The #7 Lady Monks lost to #2 Keene State College on Wednesday, 4-0, in the team's first-ever ECAC Tournament game. Starting pitcher FY Kiera Walsh (Benton, ME) takes the loss after allowing 9 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 3 in five innings. FY Cat DeSimone (Waterboro, ME) had two hits in the loss. St. Joe's finishes the season with a 26-17 record.

Keene State starter SR Ashlee Nicholson (Swanzey, NH) tossed a complete game four-hitter and broke the Owls all-time career strikeout record (513) when she fanned three Lady Monks batters in the seventh inning to end the game. Nicholson also set the KSC career mark for wins earlier in the season.

Nicholson (16-6) was in control all game, only allowing two runners in the second and sixth innings to reach second base and struck out five while allowing two walks.

St. Joe’s managed to make good contact against the Owl’s ace, but the Royal Blue was unable to capitalize on several scoring chances and stranded a pair of runners in both the second and sixth frames.

The Owls scored two runs in the third on a RBI double to left center by designated player JR Katie Allenson (Clifton Park, NY) and an infield hit by shortstop SR Colleen Ferguson (Sussex, NJ).

KSC added a single run in the fifth on a RBI double by catcher SR Melissa Scata (Medway, MA) and another in the sixth on a run-producing hit by third baseman JR Jenna Patnode (Surry, NH).

SO Christy Wezowicz (Granville, MA) tossed the final inning for the Lady Monks and allowed 2 hits and one earned run. Besides DeSimone’s pair of base-knocks, SO Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) and SO Liddy van der Linden (Worcester, MA) each collected a single to account for the SJC hits.

The Owls finished the game with 11 hits, Scata had three and Patnode, Ferguson, and outfielder SR Liz Mroczka (Rocky Hill, CT) had two apiece.

St. Joe's, under Head Coach Jamie Smyth (11th season), completed the regular season with a 26-17 record, the sixth-highest win total in program history and the most victories in six seasons as an NCAA member. The win total is the most since 2002, the program's last year in the NAIA, when the team achieved a 27-18 record and went on to win the NAIA New England Regional Tournament.

After five years of holding NCAA Division III Independent status, the Lady Monks posted a 19-7 record in the team's first season as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, which was good for a third-place regular season finish.
