– Monks Pitcher Keirstead Signed by Sanford Mainers
STANDISH, ME – St. Joe’s left-handed pitcher Andrew
Keirstead ‘10 (Westbrook, ME) has been signed by the
Sanford Mainers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Keirstead is expected to pitch out of the bullpen for Mainers head
coach Joe Brown, with the possibility of a “spot start”
or two in the team’s final three weeks of the regular season.
Keirstead, who will be a junior at St. Joe’s this fall, led
the Monks in 2008 with a 6-3 record. The southpaw was named as the
‘08 GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after making three
appearances in the tourney, recording a win and a save, to help St.
Joe’s capture the conference title in the team’s first
year in the league.
As member of the 2005 Class ‘A’ Western Maine Championship
Westbrook High School team, Keirstead was named First Team All-Conference
as both a pitcher and first baseman and also was an All-State selection.
Keirstead will be the second Monks player to play for the Mainers
and the fourth to play in the NECBL. 2005 SJC graduate and left-handed
pitcher Greg Kimball (Lebanon, ME) was a member of the 2004 Sanford
squad that captured the NECBL Championship. Pat Lessard ‘00
(Vinalhaven, ME) pitched for the Torrington Twisters in the late ‘90’s.
SJC pitcher Pat Moran ‘10 (Winterport, ME)
played for the North Adams SteepleCats in 2006 and is currently pitching
in the Boise
Summer Collegiate League in Idaho for the Nampa Bear Valley Rapids.
The Sanford Mainers are currently in second place in the Northern
Division with a 20-11 record, ½ game behind the Keene Swamp
Bats.
The NECBL began play in 1994 and fields 12 teams in two divisions
from all six New England states. The league is widely considered to
be one of the best summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country.
