12/8/05 - Michael Bolanz Named Head Men’s Soccer Coach

Standish, Maine - Michael Bolanz, a 2000 graduate of Saint Joseph’s College and currently its Head Women’s Soccer coach, has been named Head Coach of the Saint Joseph's College Men's Soccer team. Bolanz will begin his new duties immediately and will serve as the Head Coach for both teams at Saint Joseph's College.

“We are very excited to add this new full-time position to Saint Joseph's College Intercollegiate Athletics,” said Athletics Director David Roussel. “Mike has a tremendous soccer background, and he is definitely the right person for this position. He now has a great opportunity to develop two strong soccer programs at Saint Joseph’s.”

Bolanz sports an impressive resume both on the playing field and on the sidelines.
As a player, Bolanz was one of the best to ever play for Saint Joseph’s College. In his four years playing goalkeeper for the Monks, he was named to three All-Conference First Teams, two All-Region and All-State Teams, and received an All-American nomination.

Bolanz started his collegiate coaching career in 2003 as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer program at Saint Joseph's. In 2004, he took over the head coaching position for the team and led the Lady Monks to an impressive 11-7-1 record and a New England Cup Championship. His team's turnaround was ranked among the top 20 for NCAA Division III teams. For his efforts, Bolanz was named the Association of Division III Independents National Coach of the Year. In 2005, Bolanz led the Lady Monks to a record of 12-6 and the Association of Division III Independents Northeast Region Championship. In two seasons, Bolanz has a combined record of 23-13-1.

Bolanz is a nationally-licensed soccer coach. In addition to his collegiate coaching duties, he coaches an under-12 Odyssey Sport premier boy’s team in Portland, Maine, where he is also the Director of Coaching on the boys’ side and head coach of the goalkeepers.

Bolanz replaces David Roussel who served as Interim Head Coach during the 2005 fall season. He will be the fifth coach in the program’s 16 years. Bolanz is from Belmont, Mass. and currently resides in Windham, Maine.
