Bolanz Named Head Men’s Soccer Coach
Standish, Maine - Michael Bolanz,
a 2000 graduate of Saint Joseph’s College and currently its Head
Women’s Soccer coach, has been named Head Coach of the Saint Joseph's
College Men's Soccer team. Bolanz will begin his new duties immediately
and will serve as the Head Coach for both teams at Saint Joseph's College. Bolanz started his collegiate coaching career in 2003 as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer program at Saint Joseph's. In 2004, he took over the head coaching position for the team and led the Lady Monks to an impressive 11-7-1 record and a New England Cup Championship. His team's turnaround was ranked among the top 20 for NCAA Division III teams. For his efforts, Bolanz was named the Association of Division III Independents National Coach of the Year. In 2005, Bolanz led the Lady Monks to a record of 12-6 and the Association of Division III Independents Northeast Region Championship. In two seasons, Bolanz has a combined record of 23-13-1. Bolanz is a nationally-licensed soccer coach. In addition to his collegiate coaching duties, he coaches an under-12 Odyssey Sport premier boy’s team in Portland, Maine, where he is also the Director of Coaching on the boys’ side and head coach of the goalkeepers. Bolanz replaces David Roussel who served as Interim Head Coach during the 2005 fall season. He will be the fifth coach in the program’s 16 years. Bolanz is from Belmont, Mass. and currently resides in Windham, Maine. STANDISH, ME - Freshman Kevin Melega’s (Easthampton, MA) goal in the eighty-third minute of the match proved to be too little, too late as U-Mass Boston held on for a 2-1 victory at St. Joe’s on Monday. Goals by Henry Marin and Romeo Zeqo gave the Beacons a comfortable 2-0 lead with just over 30 minutes to play. The Monks had 6 second-half shots, but were unable to convert. Senior David Rosquete (Auburn, ME) recorded 5 saves for St. Joe’s while Paul Maniscalco had 4 for U-Mass. STANDISH, MAINE – After scoring just 46 seconds into the match, things quickly spiraled out of control as the Monks (4-10-1) dropped a 9-2 decision to visiting Husson College. The Eagles improved to 9-5-2 as their 9 goal explosion was sandwiched between two Saint Joseph's College goals. First year Lane Hubacz (Mapleville, RI) gave the Monks their only lead of the match as he scored during the first minute. Mike Hoffman scored the first of his four goals at 28:00 and added his second after a goal by Kyle James to give the Eagles a solid 3-1 lead at the half. Husson notched 6 more goals in the second half to take a 9-1 lead. Freshman Kevin Melega (Easthampton, MA) proved that there was still a lot of fight left in the SJC squad as he scored on a pass from junior Kevin Hageman (Albion, ME) at 87:16 to close out a rough outing for the Monks. Senior David Rosquete (Auburn, ME) recorded 16 saves in the loss. St. Joe’s travels to New England College (NH) for a 3:30 pm match on 10/26. CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Saint Joseph's (4-9-1) fell behind with just over 5 minutes to play in the first half and could not break the Newbury College (7-6) defense and dropped the match 1-0. Jose Neves netted a pass from Alex Pires for the only goal of the match at 39:29. The Nighthawks outshot the Monks 20-12 and held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks. Senior David Rosquete ( Auburn , ME ) recorded 7 saves in the loss while Andres Gutierrez had 6 saves for Newbury. FORT KENT, ME – The SJC squad
(4-8-1) dropped a tough 2-1 decision at Maine Presque Isle on Saturday,
but rebounded to earn a 2-1 victory at Fort Kent on Sunday. STANDISH, MAINE – The
Monks (3-7-1) lost 1-0 to visiting Colby College (5-5) after first year
Matt Shatkin (Brookline, MA) netted a pass from junior Daniel Kiernan

(Final) SCORING SUMMARY: STANDISH, MAINE - In a hard-fought match, SJC men’s soccer suffered a tough 2-0 loss on Friday afternoon to visiting Maine-Farmington. The Monks drop to 3-6-1 while Farmington stands at 3-5-1. Farmington recorded their second consecutive shutout and first-year keeper Brian Lemont had 8 saves earning himself NAC Rookie of the Week honors. Andy Knox scored in the 10th minute with an assist from Jeff Tataraczuk. Craig Cameron scored on an assist from Brian Broderick in the 34th minute. St. Joe’s held
a 20-16 advantage in shots and an 8-3 lead in corner kicks but was unable
to convert scoring opportunities. Senior David Rosquete
(Auburn, ME) recorded 6 saves in the loss. STANDISH, MAINE – Endicott
College saw its offense come alive as it registered a 4-1 victory over
host Saint Joseph's College. The Gulls' record stands at 4-8 while St.
Joe’s drops to 3-5-1. 10/1/05 - St. Joe’s Posts 2-1 Win over Mitchell STANDISH, MAINE – Saint Joseph's
College men’s soccer won its second straight game, defeating visiting
Mitchell College, 2-1. The Monks improve to 3-4-1 on the season while

TROUNCE TERRIERS, 4-1 WATERVILLE, MAINE –
Junior Harrison Deah (Monrovia, Liberia) recorded his
first hat trick of the season and helped Saint Joseph's College (2-4-1)
earn a 4-1 victory over host Thomas College. North Dartmouth,
Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men’s
soccer team scored a goal in each half and blanked St. Joseph’s,
2-0, at Cressy Field Tuesday afternoon. The Monks next travel
to Waterville to take on the Terriers of Thomas College on Thursday, Sept.
29, at 4 PM. 9/18/05 - MONKS FALL TO BATES, 6-0 Lewiston, Maine – Three players scored to lift Bates over visiting St. Joe’s, 6-0. Terence O’Connell scored three goals, Brent Morin had two and Atdhe Matoshi added a goal for the Bobcats in the one-sided match. Bates dominated play and out-shot the Monks 30-2 with junior Kevin Hageman (Albion, ME) recording the two shots for St. Joe’s. Senior David Rosquete (Auburn, ME) had the difficult task of playing keeper for the Monks, but managed 13 saves in his first game in net this season. The team returns to action at UMass-Dartmouth on Sept. 20 at 3:30 PM. 9/15/05 - MARINERS BOUNCE MONKS, 4-2 Castine, Maine – Three
players scored goals for Maine Maritime (1-2) as the Mariners handed St.
Joe’s a 4-2 loss under the lights at Ritchie Field. 9/10/05 - BECKER TOPS ST. JOE'S, 3-0 Worcester, Mass. –
Becker College (2-0-1) outshot St. Joe’s 24-10 en route to a 3-0
victory on Saturday. Will Paese (Waldwick, NJ) scored twice for Becker
and Alcy Riche (Hillside, NJ) added a goal for the Hawks. 9/8/05 - MONKS and HUSKIES TIE, 1-1 Standish, Maine - Saint Joseph 's College (1-0-1) battled visiting Southern Maine (1-1-1) through two overtime periods, but remained deadlocked 1-1 as the clock ran out. Junior Harrison Deah (Monrovia, Liberia) scored at 6:30 and St. Joe's held the lead until Southern Maine freshman Sinisa Bajic (Portland, ME) evened things at 32:55. The Huskies held a 20-8 advantage in shots for the game, but were unable to convert due to strong performances from St. Joe's defenders senior Steve Jette (Richford, VT) and freshmen Lane Hubacz (Mapleville, RI) and Philip Raymond (Harrisville, RI). Senior keeper Brian White (Colebrook, NH) recorded 12 saves for the Monks while junior Chris Willard (Hampton, CT) had 5 saves for Southern Maine. Six players logged 110 minutes for the Monks. 4 F Corner Kicks Total Shots Goalie Saves Both teams were almost even in the first half with 5 shots for Curry and 4 shots for St. Joe's, but a Curry shot off the goal post in the 32nd minute seemed to provide a much needed wake up call for the Monks. Junior Harrison Deah (Monrovia, Liberia) had two of his three shots for St. Joe's early in the half and junior David Hakes (Whitefield, NH) added another shot before Jette connected for the goal. Freshmen Philip Raymond (Harrisville, RI) and Lane Hubacz (Mapleville, RI) turned in strong performances for the Monks on defense in their first intercollegiate contest. Senior keeper Brian White (Colebrook, NH) had four saves for the Monks while sophomore Clark Zelazo (Palmer, MA) had 5 saves for Curry. The team returns to action on Thursday, 9/8, at 4 PM in a home contest against Southern Maine. |
