Dr. Colleen Sullivan of Kennebunk has been appointed to the psychology faculty at Saint Joseph's College, where she will be teaching courses in introductory and developmental psychology. Sullivan focuses her research and teaching on the application of developmental psychology theories and concepts to everyday experiences, particularly related to academic settings and student transitional periods. Her primary interest is the educational context of development, and she has evaluated educational practices, interventions, and programs that help students who struggle academically and/or who are experiencing changes due to academic transitions, such as the first year in college. Dr. Sullivan has studied transitional periods ranging from early elementary school to college. Her overall focus within her applied developmental psychology research is to understand the development of students' academic motivation and academic self-regulation.
She holds a master's and doctorate degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in applied developmental psychology and a B.S. from Frostburg State University in Maryland.
