The Operations Team consists of six departments: Claim Resolution, Client Services, Clinical Operations, Enrollment, Posting, and Remittance & Image Processing. The Operations Analyst responsibilities within each department vary based upon department function; however, the core skills required are the same. By applying for this “general” Operations Analyst role, you will be considered for current openings we may have in any of these departments.

An overview of the departments and responsibilities follows:

Claim Resolution
The Operations Analyst within the Claim Resolution department is titled Revenue Analyst and is responsible for researching and resolving unpaid or denied claims. This is achieved primarily through working a queue of claims in line with specified turn-around-times, and in compliance with department policies and processes. These resolution efforts consist of (1) outbound phone calls and/or (2) using on-line data, to drive analysis and gather information that will prompt accurate claim processing. The Revenue Analyst also aggregates data and monitors activity for trends that can be used to identify opportunities to prevent future unpaid or denied claims.

Client Services
The Client Services Analyst is responsible for assisting athenahealth’s customers with their problems and/or questions. These inquiries can occur via inbound phone calls or email. The Client Service Analyst is responsible for resolving customer inquiries either immediately while on the phone with the customer or via cases when the issue is more complex in nature. The Client Service Analyst needs to have a thorough understanding of all services lines offered by athenahealth and which functional areas are responsible for what work. Additionally the Client Service Analyst must be able to work cross-functionally to continuously improve our services and to resolve customer inquiries.

Clinical Operations
The Operations Analyst within the Clinical Operations department is titled Clinical Operations Analyst and is responsible for testing and processing data for the early adopters of athenaClinicals. The Clinicals team is currently creating a product designed to make providers’ lives easier, and includes such service lines as fax/document management, data entry, order/results management, coding guidance and patient population management for health maintenance/disease management, etc. The ultimate goal is to increase the quality of care while simultaneously increasing cash flow to the provider's office.

Enrollment The Operations Analyst role within the Enrollment department is titled Enrollment Analyst and is responsible for the accurate research of and execution against, payer and vendor-specific provider data verification, electronic transactions enrollment and pay-to address requirements within department turn-around times. Enrollment Services employees are responsible for verifying provider data and enrolling providers for an increasing number of electronic transactions to allow for cleaner submission of claims and quicker reimbursement for services. These verifications generally occur via outbound phone calls or using online data.

Posting
The Operations Analyst within the Posting department is titled Transaction Resolution Analyst and is primarily responsible for researching the quality of posted insurance and patient remittance advice/explanation of benefits, and addressing both internal and external inquiries related to the quality of remittance processing for clients. This includes reviewing payments and/or denials posted to determine whether errors have occurred, researching and understanding payer and posting issues and identifying, documenting and communicating existing and potential problems and trends in the quality of remittance processing.

Remittance & Image Processing
The Operations Analyst within the Remittance & Image Processing department is titled Remittance Analyst and is charged with the mission of managing deposit reconciliation and post deposit workflows, problem analysis/resolution and developing/implementing continuous process improvement to ensure athenahealth is the leading provider of high quality remittance processing services.

Skills for Operations Analysts required, but not limited to:

  • Ability to gather, manage and synthesize large amounts of information efficiently, effectively and creatively
  • Excellent communication skills (particularly listening and speaking)
  • Maniacal attention to detail
  • Willing/excited to work in a fast-paced, but sometimes intense, rapidly expanding company
  • Proficiency in Internet and MS Office as well as strong computer literacy and/or the comfort, ability and desire to advance technically
  • Experience with data collection and mining
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Background in report creation and spreadsheet analysis
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience using multiple mediums to resolve daily tasks
  • Organization and Drive
  • Comfortable working in a professional, diverse corporate setting
  • Ability to maintain poise and a sense of humor in stressful situations
  • Understanding of the process of medical billing and medical terminology, a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
The Operations Analyst will be paid on an hourly basis, plus a potential bonus driven primarily by the success of the department and determined at the discretion of management.
