Carol Seavor named nursing administrator

Dr. Carol Seavor of Scarborough has been named as the Chairperson of the Dept. of Nursing at Saint Joseph's College. Dr. Seavor has held many positions in nursing education administration and is the author of numerous articles on nursing education and practice. She replaces Dr. Margaret Hourigan, who is moving to a full-time faculty position at the college after serving the college as Chair of Nursing for 10 years.

Seavor retired in 2010 after serving as president of Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Va., for eight years. During her tenure at Jefferson she led the college through significant growth in enrollment and program offerings. She holds a B.S. in Nursing from Fitchburg State College, a master's degree from Boston University College of Nursing, and a Doctor of Education from University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

From 1996 to 2002, Dr. Seavor was professor and associate dean for academic affairs at the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She was also Dean of Nursing at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, S.C., from 1994 to 1996. Prior to that she taught nursing at Fitchburg State College for nine years and was a practicing nurse for 17 years. She also served as the nursing department chair at Saint Joseph's College from 1986 to 1994.
