Catherine’s Cupboard, Pearson’s Café prepare for fifth annual bake-off

On Wednesday, November 27, volunteers from Saint Joseph’s College and the Lakes Region community will meet at the college’s cafeteria at 11 a.m. to bake 225 pies in three hours for the fifth annual Great Thanksgiving Pie Bake-Off.

The apple pies, baked with ingredients provided by the college’s food service, Pearson’s Café, will be distributed to community members as part of Thanksgiving food baskets that afternoon at Standish’s town hall by staff from Catherine’s Cupboard Food Pantry.

“It’s a fantastic community event,” said Pearson’s Café manager, Stuart Leckie. “We have students, faculty, staff and community members all working together. To see the baskets distributed afterward at Catherine’s Cupboard is very rewarding.” Catherine’s Cupboard was founded in 2008 by the college’s Campus Ministry office, the Town of Standish and Bon Appétit Management Company as a collaborative outreach project of the college.

Including the 225 from this year, the annual bake-off has provided 975 pies for Thanksgiving baskets for the local community.
