College announces new Cultural Lecture Series: SPArC

The Art Department at Saint Joseph’s College will launch its new lecture series SPArC: Speakers, Performers, Artists and Culture. The goal of the series is to stimulate artistic discourse in the lakes region by creating a platform that brings creative professionals to campus. This inaugural semester will feature two presenters who recently did work associated with the artist Winslow Homer: Sean Wilkinson and Mark Bessire.

Guest speaker for the first lecture will be Sean Wilkinson. The lecture will take place on October 25 at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5:30) in room 128, Harold Alfond Hall at the Standish campus. The series is free and open to the public. The second lecture will be on November 29.

Sean Wilkinson is a graphic designer and principal of Might and Main, a Portland-based brand design firm. Recently his firm was hired by the Portland Museum of Art to design and coordinate the creation of products for their Winslow Homer Studio project. Sean will discuss his process for building a brand for a historic figure, what it was like collaborating with the Museum, and the trials and tribulations of creating a bobble-head doll.
