College hires new vice president

Michael Dempsey of Kennebunk, Maine, has joined Saint Joseph's College as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Dempsey has a 25-year background in fundraising. He has worked for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as their Senior Major Gifts Officer, Georgetown University Law Center as the Director of Leadership Giving, and the University of Maryland as the Director of Development for the College of Arts and Sciences.

As the Director of Principal Gifts for the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., Dempsey helped to supervise a national campaign to build a companion museum at Dulles International Airport.

As the first full-time Director of Development at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, he was instrumental in recruiting former President George H.W. Bush as honorary chairman for the capital campaign and won approval to name the new building the Dorothy Walker Bush Pavilion.

Dempsey began his duties this summer at Saint Joseph's, as the college prepares to embark on its largest capital campaign and celebrate the 100-year anniversary of its founding in 1912 by the Sisters of Mercy.
