Saint Joseph's College invites the community to an open house at the campus farm on Saturday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include activities in the "kindergarden," a space for children to learn and practice gardening (at 10 a.m.), a demonstration of "square-foot gardening" to maximize yields in small spaces (at 11 a.m.), hoop house growing (1 p.m.) and seed planting. Come and learn about the benefits of permaculture and sustainable garden practices. Mingle with free-range chickens and ducks, see the flock of Southdown sheep, and observe the guard llama who watches over the sheep. Farm-fresh eggs, vegetable and flower seedlings will be available for sale. Refreshments will be served, and participants are invited to enjoy the network of trails near the farm.
The farm, called Pearson Town Farm, is located behind the stone barns at 289 Whites Bridge Road, across the street from the main campus of Saint Joseph's College. For parking, take the driveway nearest the stone barns attached to the red farmhouse just past the college gate. For more information, call Michial Russell at 310-0976.
