Friends of Acadia is accepting applications for a Seasonal Communications Intern for the 2013 summer season, to support various social and electronic media initiatives, assist with day-to-day communications projects, and improve member and volunteer engagement.

The top priorities of this position will be to research, plan, and implement a program of short-format digital video documentaries for use in social and other electronic media; and to manage the FOA blog.

Main Duties:

  • Research, plan, and create short-format digital video documentaries of Friends of Acadia projects, events, and members for social sharing online and other purposes
  • Assist with social media, FOA blog, and other electronic communications outreach
  • Work with Communications & Outreach Coordinator to prepare for and cover special events: FOA annual meeting (July 11), Family Fun Day (July 21), FOA Benefit Auction (August 10). Must be available to work on these dates.
  • Other duties as assigned

Technical Qualifications: Experience with digital video scripting, filming, and editing, including the use of editing software. Strong writing skills. Familiarity with a range of social media platforms. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows operating system. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software, graphic design skills, interest in nonprofit communications, and familiarity with Acadia National Park all a plus.

Personal Qualifications: Can work independently or as a team. Self-starter, flexible, and able to manage complex projects. Meets deadlines. Has strong interpersonal skills and a sense of humor.

Requirements: Valid Driver’s License. Applicants will be expected to use their own automobile and will be reimbursed for mileage beyond their daily commute to Friends of Acadia office in Bar Harbor.
Willingness and ability to work at a seated computer workstation for prolonged periods.
Willingness and ability to walk several miles on park trails carrying up to 10 pounds.

Schedule: Seasonal, full-time position; May 22 through August 16; 40 hours per week; occasional weekends and evenings.

Wage: $12.00/hr. Pay period: Every two weeks.

Housing: Applicants will be expected to find their own housing on or near Mount Desert Island.
