The Department of Administrative & Financial Services is an innovative organization that coordinates a number of central services for agencies within Maine State Government. The Natural Resources Service Center provides financial and budgetary management services as well as human resource and employee relations services to the four natural resource agencies in the State. This position provides support to financial management professionals and provides critical audit resources to the natural resource agencies of the State.

JOB DUTIES: As an Auditor I, you will review business and internal controls to ensure proper accountability of fiscal operations. You will test for control weaknesses and recommend improvements to customer agencies by advising the Service Center Director. You will review the effectiveness of and adherence to accounting and administrative controls, financial conditions, and compliance and effectiveness of program operations. As a member of the natural resources team, you will perform a wide variety of professional auditing work and will be responsible for advising the Director on issues that impact controls of significant assets in state government. You will review applied accounting theory and principles to ensure compliance with governing laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will prepare reports and disclosures in order to communicate relevant information to concerned parties and the Service Center Director. In this position, you will consult with agency program managers and internal/external financial staff in order to identify business needs, compliance issues, and reporting requirements and ensure compliance with state/federal fiscal policies or other special requirements. Successful candidates will be knowledgeable of GAAP and GASB and skilled in the use of standard desktop technology, particularly spreadsheets. This position is located in Hallowell.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field -OR- a four (4) year combination of education, training, and/or experience at the professional level in auditing and accounting. Preference will be given to candidates holding a related advanced degree and/or professional certifications (CGFM, CPA, CIA, CISA, etc). SALARY: Range 20 ($15.05 – $20.28/hr)

Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 11.54% of pay
Value of State-paid Dental Insurance: $13.69 biweekly

Value of State-paid Health Insurance**:

  • Level 1: 100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing): $363.77 biweekly
  • Level 2: 95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%): $345.58 biweekly
  • Level 3: 90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%): $327.39 biweekly
  • Level 4: 85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%): $309.20 biweekly
**The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program as of July 1, 2011.
