The Maine Franchise Owners Association is interested in hiring a St. Joseph’s College journalism student to research, write and edit articles for their newsletter and website.
The articles will be about the people in Maine that invest in a franchise and do business in Maine. The economic impact of franchise operations in Maine is substantial. There are over 3500 franchised units in the State of Maine that directly employ over 38,000 Maine citizens with a payroll that exceeds $1 billion and a GDP approaching $4 billion. Depending on their skills, there will be a feature story each month about the complex issues franchisees face in doing business in the State of Maine such as minimum wage, contractual arrangements, as well as business owners meeting state and federal state mandates.
We are looking for a student or students that are willing and able to do research, interview people on the phone, account for their time, meet deadlines and maybe to travel (paid) to Augusta on occasion to cover stories at the State House.
A camera both still and video would be helpful so as to tell the complete story. The job will probably entail about 10-20 hours a month and we are willing to compensate them $10 per hour.
