Maine Red Claws - Community Relations Internship

The mission of the Maine Red Claws internship program is to educate its participants in all aspects of operating a professional sports organization. Through observation and practical experience, interns learn how to function in a professional environment that requires a high energy level, the ability to perform under pressure and the utilization of essential time management skills. Through these developments, the Red Claws strive to successfully prepare their interns to compete for positions in the professional sports industry.

Community Relations Internship:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist with game night responsibilities including:
  • Accompanying of Make-A-Wish children or other guests
  • Home Court Hero Program including researching potential honorees
  • Assisting PR intern at credentials table pregame
  • Assisting with administration of game night 50/50 charitable fundraising program
• Maintain and direct the team mascot's schedule, including scheduling intern coverage (mascot and escort)
• Assist with regularly scheduled player autograph sessions
• Assist with fulfillment of charitable donation requests
• Accompany players, mascot and/or dancers to appearances
• Maintenance of community files
• Assist with planning, implementation and staffing of charitable events
• Attend public events and represent company (It is mandatory for all interns, regardless of department, to appear at events as mascot)
• General office duties and other duties as assigned by Director of Public Relations and Community Relations

Qualifications:

• 3rd or 4th year college student (junior or senior standing)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, HTML knowledge helpful
• Journalism, Sport Management, Public Relations, Communications or related major preferred
• Desire to work in community relations in professional sports or for a nonprofit
• Strong writing skills
• Ability to work at a fast pace
• Strong sense of discretion and professional attitude
• Flexible schedule including game nights, some days and weekends, including non-game days
• Must have access to a car with a clean driving record & own laptop

This is a non-paid position.
