On Sunday, June 23, 140 students from the Maine Suzuki Association and the New England Suzuki Institute, ages three to 18, will perform a benefit concert at Saint Joseph’s College to raise funds for Seeds of Peace, an international nonprofit that brings together youth from conflict-torn countries to instill in them a desire for peace and to build leadership skills. The musicians will perform on violins, cellos, guitars and pianos.
This is the third year the Maine Suzuki Association has performed a benefit concert at Saint Joseph’s College. Their first was in response to the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The Maine Suzuki Association supports music education in Maine. It is based upon the philosophy and teaching of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki (1898-1998), and to help further his vision of world peace.
The Sunday performance takes place at 6:30 p.m. in the Harold Alfond Center gymnasium at Saint Joseph’s campus in Standish. Admission to the performance is a donation, which will be given to Seeds of Peace.
