Kids can wear their pajamas and enjoy the reading of a good book, along with fun activities and snacks as elementary education majors from Saint Joseph's College present a monthly "Bedtime Stories" program this winter. Children from area schools, grades K-3, are invited to attend this free event, the first of which will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The theme for the January program is "Chinese New Year and Fantasy Stories."
Dates for the future include Wednesday, Feb. 24 (Multicultural and Folk Tales), Tuesday, March 2 (Dr. Seuss' Birthday/Read Across America), Wednesday, March 24 (Farms), and Wednesday, April 14 (Earth Day and Weather).
Sponsored through the Saint Joseph's chapter of Student Educators Association of Maine (SEAM), each program will feature books and related activities that reflect seasonal themes. Danielle Johnson of Standish, elementary education major and SEAM member, says, "Everyone participating is excited to help the children develop their reading skills outside of the classroom and have some fun."
The events will be held in the first-floor lounge at the Harold Alfond Center on the Standish campus. Don't forget a blanket or your favorite teddy bear. No registration necessary. 893-7723.
