New online theology director

Saint Joseph’s College has appointed Dr. Patricia Ireland as its new online theology program director. Previously, she was an assistant professor of religious studies at Dominican College in Orangeburg, N.Y., where she also directed the religious studies program and the humanities program.

“There’s an explosion in online theology studies. We need to keep current and competitive with other programs around the country,” says Ireland, who has five degrees in theology, including three master’s degrees and a doctorate.

Ireland’s predecessor, Dr. Daniel Sheridan, calls her informed, committed, determined and faithful.  “She brings to the programs a deep understanding of Catholic faith and a broad pastoral experience,” says Sheridan.

Ireland, who has designed online theology courses and curricula, wants to expand classes and programs at Saint Joseph’s. She recently launched the college’s online graduate certificate program in theology, which her predecessor designed. She plans to add a second master’s degree in sacred theology as a complement to the well-established master’s in pastoral theology and establish non-credit symposia as well.

Ireland earned her B.A. and M.A. at Boston College, her M.Div., at Andover Newton Theological School, and a M. Phil., and Ph.D., in theology from Drew University.
