Portland String Quartet to perform at Saint Joseph’s College

The Portland String Quartet performs at Saint Joseph's College on Monday, July 19, at 7:30 p.m., during its two-week residency at the Sebago Lake campus in Standish. The concert of chamber music will feature works by Mozart, Dvorak and Brahms.

To celebrate the Portland String Quartet's 35th Summer String Quartet Workshop, two distinguished graduates of the summer workshop will perform with the group this year. Professional musicians cellist Rylie Harrod and violist Drew Ricciardi will join members of the Portland String Quartet in the performance of Brahms' Viola Quintet, Op.111.

"This concert promises to be an inspiration for all, as we offer great music and promising new talent that speaks to the teaching legacy of the Portland String Quartet," says the Julia Adams, the quartet's violist. The quartet is completing its 41st concert season this summer.

Harrod studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London and has performed throughout Europe at major concert halls. Drew teaches on the applied faculties of the New England Conservatory's Festival Youth Orchestra and the Common Time Chamber Music Workshop in Lexington. He was recently accepted to perform in the Britten-Pears Orchestra of the United Kingdom.

Tickets are $20 and available only at the door (no advance reservations). The concert takes place in Viola George Auditorium of Harold Alfond Hall.
