Portland String Quartet performs

The world-renowned Portland String Quartet performs at Saint Joseph’s College on Monday, July 15, at 7:30 p.m., during its two-week residency at the Sebago Lake campus in Standish. The concert of chamber music will feature the work of Mozart, Haydn and Tchaikovsky. Guest pianist Laura Kargul will join the PSQ, as well.

The quartet has been performing together since 1969, and The Washington Post has called their lyrical and united musicianship “a dialogue of the highest musical level.”

This year marks PSQ’s 38th Summer Workshop, a two-week workshop that brings students from all over the U.S. and abroad to Maine for an intensive study of chamber music and performance. Summer Workshop students will perform two public concerts on Saturday, July 27. The first is at 2:30 p.m. and the second begins at 7:30 p.m.

Admission to PSQ’s July 15 concert is $10, payable by check or cash. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Viola George Auditorium in Harold Alfond Hall. The Summer Workshop student performances, also in the Viola George Auditorium, are free to attend. For more information about the PSQ, visit www.portlandstringquartet.org.
