College announces head athletic trainer

Saint Joseph's College has announced the hiring of Rick Burrill of Freeport as head athletic trainer. Burrill spent the last 16 years as an athletic trainer in professional hockey, including the last two seasons with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. Prior to his stint in Portland he was a member of the Los Angeles Kings' training staff for seven years.

In 2006, Burrill was recognized by the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society for having worked in 1,000 professional hockey games.

"We are very pleased to have Rick join our staff," said athletic director Brian Curtain. "We feel fortunate to have someone with his background and know he will be a great new addition to the Saint Joseph's College community."

A native of Freeport, Maine, Burrill earned his bachelor's degree at Northeastern University and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Burrill succeeds Lisa Ahearn, who will remain with the college as a full-time faculty member in the sports management department after serving nine years as the head athletic trainer.
