Observatory open for Mars viewing

The Saint Joseph's College observatory in Standish will be open from 9:30 p.m. to midnight on Aug. 25-29 to view the planet Mars through a 14"-diameter telescope, weather permitting. Professor William Hoyt will be on hand to answer questions. The planet's closest approach to Earth is Wednesday, August 27.

Haze will diminish the view; if in doubt about whether observatory is open for viewing, call Dr. Hoyt at 893-7909 starting at 8 p.m. The observatory is located in the Heffernan Center (take first left and then first right and continue to third building on right, just before Mercy Hall).
