Professor earns folic acid award

Sharon Martin of Turner, associate professor of nursing at Saint Joseph's College, received a certificate of appreciation for outstanding leadership in the promotion of folic acid awareness presented by the Maine Folic Acid Council at the Blaine House (governor's mansion) in October. The award was presented by First Lady Karen Baldacci and Patricia Day, Chair of the Maine Folic Council and Nurse Coordinator of the Maine Birth Defects Program. Martin's Community Nursing class used service learning projects to educate female students on the Saint Joseph's campus about the importance of folic acid in their diet.

Professor Martin was also featured in the cover story, "Preparing Nurses for Today's World" in the October issue of News-Line for Nurses, a national publication that goes to 60,000 nurses.
