Saint Joseph's College of Maine has joined forces with The College Network in its continued efforts to offer quality distance education for busy nurses. This new venture gives clients of The College Network a unique opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Saint Joseph's College of Maine, a degree that is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing, Augusta, Maine.
Using The College Network's Comprehensive eLearning ModuleTM and personalized academic support allows learners to earn up to 30 college credits for general education and elective courses by passing end-of-course college equivalency exams. Through a combination of these equivalency examinations, Saint Joseph's College online courses, and other transfer credits, nurses can fulfill their degree requirements in an efficient manner with up to one-third the cost of traditional programs.
Dr. Lois Hamel, program director for distance nursing at Saint Joseph's says, "This relationship will allow more practicing nurses the opportunity to pursue a BSN (and MSN) around their hectic schedules. Nurses are feeling the pressure right now as facilities wish to gain AACN Magnet status, which requires a higher percentage of their nurses to hold bachelor's or master's degrees in nursing."
The online BSN degree completion program at Saint Joseph's emphasizes patient outcomes across all health care settings. Participants will learn about evidence-based care, clinical decision-making, ethical practices, population-based care, health promotion and disease prevention. The Saint Joseph's online environment with its monthly course start dates is both convenient and flexible, making its program an excellent fit with The College Network.
"The College Network is excited about this new partnership," said Gary Eyler, Chairman and CEO of The College Network. "By combining Saint Joseph 's College of Maine 's leadership in nursing education with our expertise in distance learning, we have developed courses that are just as academically rigorous as traditional classroom-based education, yet substantially more convenient for today's working nurses."
