Volunteers commit to Buxton free clinic

Saint Joseph's College nursing student Anna Willis of Gorham speaks with a patient over the phone as nursing professor Patricia Leavitt, left, and nursing administrator Lois Hamel, consult about another patient at the Leavitt's Mill Health Center in Buxton. All three volunteer their time at the free clinic, which serves people who lack health insurance.

Leavitt Mills Health Center offers general medical clinics, women's health breast and cervical cancer screening clinics, counseling, physical therapy and pediatric dental hygiene clinics serving more than 800 clients.

Leavitt of Buxton is the founder of the clinic and its executive director. Both she and Hamel are certified primary care nurse practitioners and serve on the nursing faculty at Saint Joseph's College. Hamel is also the program director for Saint Joseph's online nursing education programs. The clinic can be reached at 929-6455 or online at www.leavittsmill.org.
