Christopher Brandes '10 hit pay dirt last summer as an intern at the college's organic farm, created through a collaboration with campus food vendor Bon Appétit. A biology major with a secondary education minor, Chris wants to bring some of that experience to the high school biology classroom. (Think composting curriculum!) Dedicated to sustainable agriculture and locally grown food that reduces the carbon footprint of long-distance distributioin, Bon Appétit helped Chris and other students attend classes on organic gardening and sustainability whiile learning how to run a fully-functioning organic farm. With their hard work, the farm helped to grow and donate more than 500 pounds of produce for Catherine's Cupboard Food Pantry in Standish and 5,000 pounds of homegrown produce for the campus dining hall.
