Service learning coordinator named

Kimberly Post Rowe of Raymond, Maine, has joined the staff of Saint Joseph's College as the coordinator of service learning, a teaching and learning program that integrates classroom instruction and reflection with meaningful community service.

"Through service learning, students develop an increased sense of citizenship and compassion for others, while learning to think critically about real-life problems," says Post Rowe.

A former instructor at Southern Maine Community College who has employed service learning since 2008, she has been a teacher for 16 years. She holds a master's in education from Lesley University and a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Atlanta College of Art. She is the author of A Settled Mind: Stress Reduction for the Classroom and Beyond and writes regularly on best teaching practices. She is also the program director of Five Seeds, a local nonprofit committed to reducing the impact of stress on individuals and communities through experiential learning, brain-body awareness, and contemplative practices.
