A
bomb threat may come to the attention of the receiver in various ways.
It is important to compile as much information as possible. It is also
important to remember that the substantial majority of such threats are
false and primarily intended to elicit a response from the organization.
Bomb threat received via telephone
Remain calm and immediately refer to the attached
bomb threat checklist. If applicable, pay attention to your telephone
display and record the information shown in the display window.
Keep the caller on the line as long as possible and obtain
as much information as possible. Do not debate with, or otherwise anger
the caller.
While engaging the caller, pay attention to any background
noise and distinctive sounds (machinery, traffic, other voices, music,
television, etc.).
Note any characteristics of the caller's voice (gender, age,
education, accent, etc.).
Attempt to obtain information on the location of a device
(building, floor, room, etc.).
Attempt to obtain information on the time of detonation and
type of detonator.
Immediately notify Campus Security at 7-9-1-1, and be prepared
to relay as much information as possible, using information from the bomb
threat checklist.
Evacuation
The decision to evacuate a college facility will generally
be made by consultation of Campus Security, Standish Fire and Rescue,
Cumberland County Sheriff Office and college administration after a thorough
evaluation of the information available. Should the ranking Campus Security
Officer arriving on scene immediately find a suspicious package, or encounters
sufficient evidence to believe an explosive device does exists, he/she
can make a decision to evacuate a building without consultation.
Evacuation
Instruction
Whenever you hear the building alarm or receive a
evacuation notice:
- Do Not Panic
- Do not ignore the alarm
- Leave the building immediately, in an orderly fashion
- Do not use elevators
- Classes in session must be dismissed and students directed
to leave
- Follow quickest evacuation route from where you are
- Do not go back to office or classroom area for any reason
- Proceed to the designated emergency assembly point for
your building.
- Return to the building only after emergency officials give the all-clear
signal. Silencing the alarm does not mean the emergency is over.
The College will prosecute to the fullest extent possible
under law any person(s) placing any threat to students, faculty, staff,
and campus facilities.
