New health information management degree is met with strong job growth

Saint Joseph’s College Online, a leader in distance education since 1976, is proud to now offer a Bachelor of Science in health information management. Launched in July, this degree-completion program prepares students for a job market that is expecting a 21 percent increase in demand for health information management experts, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Dr. Twila Weiszbrod, the program’s director, says that employers are increasingly looking for well-educated and qualified health information managers and technicians. “The field is becoming more technologically advanced and broader in scope,” Weiszbrod said. “Health care organizations need employees that have received the latest, most up-to-date education possible. We are dedicated to preparing our students for successful careers, and the health information management degree is just one part of that goal.”

Successfully earning the bachelor’s degree prepares students to pass the Registered Health Information Administrator Exam from the American Health Information Management Association. The program was explicitly developed to ensure that students master the competencies required for licensure. Accreditation of the degree by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education is in process.
