Celebrating 50 years at the lake

“Small Steps, Great Strides” theme captures Homecoming weekend

Charlotte (Whitney) Regan ’91 and twin sis Ruth Ann (Whitney) Pratt ’91 enjoy the soccer game with their families.

More than 400 alumni and friends joined in the Homecoming weekend festivities as Saint Joseph’s celebrated 50 years at the Standish campus. Alumni from all generations were back to play golf, show off their athletic skills on the field, honor Hall of Fame inductees, enjoy two beautiful fall days on campus, play in The Chalet, and catch up with one another. BASEBALL

Coach Will Sanborn ’86 brought alumni from the 1970s to 2006 back for the annual alumni game. This year’s game was dedicated to Coach Bob Doyle, who passed away earlier this year. A ceremony was held to retire #25, Coach Doyle’s number, present his family with his home and away jersey, and honor him and the legacy he left on the SJC baseball program. Bob’s son, Sam, threw out the first pitch before the alums hit the field.

CROSS COUNTRY

Alumni competed against the students in the annual men’s and women’s races.

VOLLEYBALL

Alums gathered on the court to show off their skill vs. the current varsity team.

GOLF

More than 80 alumni golfers hit the links at Spring Meadows in Gray for the annual golf tournament. Co-chairs Reis Hagerman ’79 and Brad Pollard, owner of Spring Meadows, helped put together a great day. Twenty-two teams competed for prizes – including bragging rights to the Golf Classic trophy. The fun continued with a cocktail hour, buffet dinner, and a silent auction and raffle to benefit the Royal Blue Club. Winners of the day were: Longest Drive: Matt Libby ’95; Closest to the Pin: David Huckins ’93; 1st Place Team Net Score: Jim Sullivan ’87, Diarmaid O ’Donoghue ’88, Karl Obermeyer ’87 and Thomas Spadaccini ’87; 1st Place Team Gross Score: Matt Libby ’95, Steve Simmons ’96, Scott Jones ’93 and Bill DePippo ’95.

SOFTBALL

Alums took the field to show off their skill to members of the current softball team.
