Leadership Summit
Alumni help to shape campus
plans for the next decade

The future of Saint Joseph’s College
over the next decade was the key topic at the first Leadership Summit
held this summer, as alumni, trustees and longtime friends of the College
gathered with President David House and his senior staff in Xavier Hall.
The
goals were to consider both the growth opportunities and challenges for
the College in the years ahead, to hear the thinking behind campus planning,
and to gather input for the capital campaign needed to realize the goals
for growth.
The collaborative day began with President House and Trustee
Chair, Dr. Robert MacBride, outlining a vision of the future and an overview
of current Master Plan activity by Einhorne Yaffe Prescott, the Boston-based
consulting firm engaged by the College to update the campus Master Plan.
Members
of the Summit then moved into small work groups to brainstorm ideas for
marketing, expanding relationships with outside foundations, managing
our external image and gauging reactions to the proposed Master Plan
for the next 10 years at the College. Each group presented their ideas
to the Summit participants for further deliberation. Enthusiastic discussions
continued at a reception in Portland and then again on a late-afternoon
cruise on Casco Bay.
The Office of Institutional Advancement sponsored
the Leadership Summit in order to develop long-term relationships with
individuals who have a passionate commitment to the College and want
to be actively engaged in the future of Saint Joseph’s. Feedback
on the Summit was very positive. Many commented on the extent of the
College’s planning and preparation to ensure long-term success.
Plans are under way for a second Leadership Summit next year that will
focus on increasing alumni participation in all aspects of the College.
