President House departing in May after 12 years of leadership

Great strides, 1995-2007

Photo of President David House

President David House’s leadership ushered in an era of tremendous growth and development at Saint Joseph’s. His vision of excellence for the college was matched by great accomplishments, as four major buildings were constructed and one major addition/expansion completed. During this time, Dr. House also oversaw development of two strategic plans and two master plans, both critical to the transformation of Saint Joseph’s.

President House’s all encompassing commitment to Saint Joseph’s College reflected his love for the college and the college community. We offer him the very best wishes and deeply thank him for his many years of dedicated service and leadership.

Under President David House’s leadership: Enrollment increased by nearly 30 percent; major grants totaling $10 million helped to fund research, educational initiatives and technological advances; academic majors increased from 16 to 28 and degree programs for adult learners rose from 7 to 19; construction and expansion doubled the square footage of the physical plant; and renovations restored the library, the Chalet, dining hall, baseball and softball diamonds, field hockey and soccer fields.

• Student life improved immensely once cramped recreation and athletic quarters in the “Chamber of Horrors” were replaced by the expansive and light- filled Alfond Center.

• Renovating the dining hall and creating a café for beverages, snacks and checking e-mail greatly enhanced campus life.

• Mercy Hall transformed when new classrooms, labs, office space and an atrium were added.

• With the large increase in enrollments, Alfond Hall brought needed classrooms, faculty offices, computer labs, an auditorium and a lounge – along with a wireless environment for laptops.

• Currier Hall and Feeney Hall brought suite-style living to campus (and air conditioning for summer students!) – and helped to form a residential quad area.
