In addition to summer session classes, the warm months bring campus events ranging from 6-year-olds making music to rug-hooking elders creating masterpieces.
The Rug Hookers gather at the Alfond Center in May and fashion unique and beautiful rugs that are then displayed for the campus. In June, the Sebago Leadership Camp brings Catholic middle school boys to campus for a week that includes worship and team-building activities.
Also in June, the New England Suzuki Music Camp helps children enhance their skills on a wide variety of instruments. The group of nearly 150 music enthusiasts will be coming back for its third year, complete with open-air concerts.
In July, Saint Joseph's alumni return for Reunion Weekend (see Reunion:Book it soon!), and the college welcomes the Advanced Placement Summer Institute, which teaches high school teachers of advanced placement courses.
The Portland String Quartet, a critically acclaimed foursome with 17 albums, has moved its summer workshop to Saint Joseph's campus after many years at Colby College. During their two weeks in late July and August, they will offer master classes to aspiring chamber musicians and perform twice in the auditorium for the public.
In early August, many of the 500 participants of the annual MS Bike-A-Thon gather at Saint Joseph's the night before the big ride begins from the Alfond Center.
Did we mention the girls' choir camp, sports camps and faculty conferences also on campus during these months? It's another lively, engaging summer by the lake.
