Lakeside summer sessions offer new choices

Summer sessions at Saint Joseph's College are a great way for Graduate & Professional Studies students to accelerate their degree and make strong
personal connections with faculty, staff and fellow students. The setting on Sebago Lake, side trips to Freeport and Portland, informal social gatherings on campus and the lobster bake add to the magical atmosphere.

This year, summer students can expect even more as we offer new options on campus:

  •  A five-day symposium for health administration professionals, "Managing the Business of Health Care," will be held July 15-19. Guest speakers will address current issues in health care, including trends in health care man- agement, applied ethics (a panel discussion), end of life issues, and many more. This event awards undergraduate or graduate credit as well as non- credit CEUs.
  • New hybrid courses in the health administration and nursing programs will be offered in a combination online (5 weeks) and classroom (5 days) format.
  • Eight two-week theology courses will allow registrations until one week before the classes begin, allowing for more flexibility in student planning and no pre-campus assignments.
  • MBA students will be pleased to learn that two courses will have Executive Seminar weekends in Portland this summer. Quality Leadership will meet June 12-16, and Strategic Leadership of Human Capital will meet August 21-25. Both extended weekends will be preceded by online activities for three weeks. The extended weekends will allow students to collaborate with their co-learners in a face-to-face setting.

In addition to these innovative options, students can choose from traditional two-week courses. New courses this year include: History of the Modern Middle East, Nursing Ethics and Introduction to Gender Studies. A favorite from last summer, America and the Film World of John Ford, returns, along with perennial favorite Faith in the Contemporary World.

Managing the Business of Health Care:
A Symposium for Health Administration Professionals

July 15-19, 2008
Saint Joseph's College of Maine

How well do you manage the rapidly changing demographics of health care? Do you view the patient as a consumer and a customer? How do you integrate ethical considerations into your management process? Are you aware of the latest techniques for managing the business of health care?

Symposium participants will have the opportunity to explore these and other important topics with health care administrators, educators and other experts. This symposium is designed for chief executives, administrators, hospital department directors, nurse administrators and unit managers.

Those who attend can also expand their network of professional colleagues and earn CEUs or college credits. Join us for the entire 5-day symposium or just one day. Enjoy southern Maine and our campus on beautiful Sebago Lake. Visit www.sjcme.edu/healthsymposium for more details and to register
