SJC Alumni at Fenway ParkThe sold-out Red Sox game in late June brought together 110 alumni and friends. Although the Sox took a loss against Texas, the alumni had a fabulous time with a pre-game reception at Boston Billiards and then as part of the “bleacher creatures” during the game. Magazine readership survey: Your opinion counts!Last fall, the Marketing and Public Relations department surveyed Saint Joseph’s College Magazine readers for whom the College had e-mail addresses. We received 528 replies, a response rate of 14%. Although the findings don’t represent the entire alumni population, since we used a sample based on e-mail availability, the results are insightful and important. The results show two in three respondents read all (27%) or most (41%) of the magazine. Three in four rated it excellent (24%) or good (50%). The sections directly related to alumni (alumni events and photos, profiles, and class notes) had the highest readership levels (69%, 62% and 55%, respectively, reported they always read these sections). Readership of the online version was low (13%), but nearly half of the respondents indicated they would be more likely to read it online if they received an e-mail reminder. (One of the benefits of the online magazine is the ability to e-mail a story directly to a friend or colleague. Plus, each story typically has additional photos not used in the print version.) When asked which story, if any, stood out from the first three issues, the article profiling Father John Tokas topped the list, followed closely by the story of Sister Consuela and her approach to the nursing. Other cover stories featuring professors Greg Teegarden and Mark Green and the “Say Yes to Education” program rounded out the top mentions. When asked for overall suggestions, only about one in four respondents answered, but the most suggested change was increasing alumni coverage and visibility of the adult learners. A desire to see more articles about the Sisters of Mercy, the College’s Catholic identity and its mission and values, was also noted. The opinions shared and the suggestions provided will not go unheeded. In fact, the cover story in this issue was selected in part to recognize the alumni population who earned their degrees through distance education. We plan to do a follow-up survey in the near future, so please make sure we have your e-mail address. Please visit www.sjcme.edu/stayintouch and update your contact information today. Remember: send comments on the magazine to cdaniels@sjcme.edu.
