Since the last issue of Saint Joseph’s College Magazine, we’ve added more than 500 new alumni to our expanding Alumni Association. On behalf of the alumni family, I would like to congratulate the Class of 2013 on your accomplishments, wish you great success as you continue to work toward your goals, and welcome you to the Association. As you begin your post-college life, the Association is the College’s way to keep in touch, make connections with fellow alumni and provide opportunities to meet and continue celebrating your successes.
Making and keeping connections is a major part of the Association. To do this, one of the events we host – the most anticipated event of the year – is Alumni Weekend. This year, Alumni Weekend was held on August 1 to 5 on campus. It was a wonderful opportunity for friends to reunite meet and also for alumni to make new connections.
This year saw a number of changes to Alumni Weekend. Moving the event to the first weekend of August is just one of those changes. By moving the date, this allowed everyone to enjoy Portland and Sebago Lake during Maine’s best part of summer.
Many new events made this weekend better than ever. A pig roast down at Saint Joseph’s beach, an Island Night in the Chalet with music by DJ Tish, a wine tasting and a brewery tour of Portland are just a few of the events we added.
We continued with and improved on all of our past traditions as well, such as the Cruise on Casco Bay with The Time Pilots band and the Alumni Awards Banquet featuring the now famous lobster bake. This was a fun weekend with opportunities for everyone to network with fellow alumni and enjoy a great time with family and friends.
Keep an eye out for photos of this year’s Alumni Weekend on our Facebook page, in the monthly e-newsletter and in the autumn edition of Saint Joseph’s College Magazine.
As always, I encourage you to become involved, rekindle old friendships and create new ones. Invest in your education, and make a difference in the future of Saint Joseph’s College.
Todd Hamilton, O.D.
