Alumnus, honorary degree recipient donates materials and workers to rebuild Breezy Point firehouse
Jim Killoran, a 1980 history and sociology graduate of Saint Joseph’s College and the executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Westchester, N.Y., has pledged to donate materials and manpower to rebuild a Breezy Point, N.Y., firehouse that was damaged during Hurricane Sandy.
Third annual Monks 5K runs on a beautiful May day
On Thursday, May 2, 50 members of the Saint Joseph’s College community met behind the Harold Alfond Center to participate in the third annual Monks 5K. It was a clear, blue day, with Sebago Lake and Mount Washington visible from the starting line.
Continuing education workshop for CPAs
The CPA Series at Saint Joseph’s College will hold a one-day workshop for certified public accountants and other financial professionals on Thursday, May 16. The workshop provides eight hours of continuing education credits toward licensing requirements in addition to one hour of ethics.
Maine Space Grant Consortium scholarships support students’ research
Saint Joseph’s students Terence Cullen ’14 and Robert Michaud Jr. ’14 have each been awarded a $3,000 scholarship through the Maine Space Grant Consortium to pursue research of interest to NASA. Submitted to a panel of Saint Joseph’s professors – Dr. Elizabeth Auger, Dr. Nicholas Benfaremo, Dr. Johan Erikson and Camilla Fecteau – the students’ research proposals look at topics that, after successful execution in the laboratory, can be applied in different settings of space exploration.
Commencement speaker, honorary degree recipients celebrate professionalism and philanthropy

Exploring international business opportunities for Maine companies
Concluding a semester-long, in-depth research and analysis project, students from Saint Joseph’s Cross Cultural Management class present their findings on business opportunities in the developing markets of Brazil, Russia, South Africa, China, Turkey and India for local, Maine companies on April 25. Kevin Hancock, president of Hancock Lumber, will precede the presentation with opening remarks.
College presents screening of ‘Chasing Ice’
On Tuesday, April 16, Saint Joseph’s College will host a screening of “Chasing Ice,” the 2013 Oscar-nominated documentary on National Geographic photographer James Balog.
College presents ‘Dead Dinosaurs and Nuclear Wars’
Dr. Owen Brian Toon will present his lecture, “Dead Dinosaurs and Nuclear Wars,” on April 18. A captivating look at the history and future of Earth, Dr. Toon will lead a unique discussion that unravels the similarities between the mass extinction that occurred 66 million years ago and the effects of a modern nuclear war.
