College celebrates Vatican II with symposium
It’s been 50 years since the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II), called by Blessed Pope John XXIII. The most important religious event since the Reformation, Vatican II shaped the Catholic Church and the entire Christian world. In its honor, Saint Joseph’s College is holding a symposium, Vatican II: After 50 Years, to take a historical look at Vatican II and its effects.
New Major in Writing and Publishing
Saint Joseph’s College will offer a Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Publishing beginning in the fall of 2013. This degree allows students to explore careers in a wide range of publishing markets. With the new major, students will focus on writing for in-house purposes, such as reports, newsletters and planning documents, and writing for a broader audience, like in magazines, books and online publications.
Three-year business degree sets stage for graduate and professional work
A new track for business majors is being offered beginning in the fall of 2013. A three-year business degree option provides students the opportunity not only to complete their degree and proceed to a career faster; it also allows those students to earn a Master of Accountancy and other advanced degrees by their fourth year, thanks to an accelerated schedule of courses.
New minor in sustainability studies develops innovative, critical thinkers at Saint Joseph’s
This fall, students at Saint Joseph’s College will begin the critical and dynamic study of environmental and sustainability issues resulting in a minor in sustainability studies. With its interdisciplinary structure, students will become well versed on the dynamic topic of sustainability. This includes courses in theology, philosophy, psychology, business, sociology, as well as environmental science.
Lifeguard training review course
Saint Joseph’s College will offer a lifeguard training review course on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Monday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Harold Alfond Recreation Center on the Standish campus.
SPArC lecture series continues with the newly released spring 2013 lineup
On the heels of the extremely successful fall series of SPArC (Speakers, Performers, Artists and Culture) lectures, the College is proud to announce the spring 2013 schedule. The new lineup expands the focus of SPArC to include the five senses, with a dynamic group of speakers: multimedia artist Jeff Badger (Jan. 30), singer-songwriter Samuel James (Feb. 13) and brewmaster Ben Alexander (Apr. 3).
Prestigious accreditation for online long-term care and health administration degrees
Saint Joseph’s College’s online programs in long-term care administration (Bachelor of Science) and health administration (Master of Health) have recently earned re-accreditation by the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).

Red Cross babysitter training class on Dec. 27
Saint Joseph’s College will offer a Babysitter’s Training Certification class on Thursday, Dec. 27, at Harold Alfond Center on the Standish campus. The course provides young people, ages 11 to 15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians.
